BANGKOK, Thailand – Chiang Mai province has been ranked the safest city in ASEAN for 2026, retaining the top spot for the second consecutive year. According to Numbeo’s latest Safety Index, the global quality-of-life database bases its rankings on crime statistics and residents’ perceptions of safety.

Thailand placed three cities in the region’s top 10. Chiang Mai ranked first, followed by Bangkok in fifth and Pattaya in sixth. The index measures both reported crime levels and people’s sense of security in their daily lives.

Officials said the results are indicative of sustained cooperation among security agencies, government authorities, the private sector, and local communities in maintaining public order. The Royal Thai Police said it will continue implementing strict safety measures to ensure Thailand remains a secure destination for residents and international visitors. (NNT)
