PATTAYA, Thailand – The official opening of the Chao Pho–Chao Mae Pak Nam Pho procession and the 110th-anniversary Chinese New Year celebration in Nakhon Sawan took place on the evening of February 11, featuring spectacular cultural performances and a celebratory fireworks display that marked the start of one of Thailand’s most iconic Chinese New Year festivals.

The ceremony was presided over by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, joined by Chutiphorn Sesang, Governor of Nakhon Sawan province; Rawat Surit, chairman of the organising committee; and representatives from both the public and private sectors.

Held under the theme “110 Years of Colourful Chinese New Year – The City of Five Languages,” the festival runs for 12 days and 12 nights from February 10–21. Rooted in more than a century of heritage shaped by five Chinese ethnic communities at the origin of the Chao Phraya River, the celebration reflects strong community collaboration through the traditional Tao Neng committee system.

Major highlights include the night procession on February 19 and the grand daytime procession on February 20, featuring a majestic golden dragon and the symbolic Goddess parade.

Similar Chinese New Year celebrations are also being held in other key destinations, including Bangkok and Pattaya, where cultural performances, lantern displays, and festive activities are drawing both local residents and visitors as part of nationwide celebrations welcoming the Year of the Golden Horse.
