BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Public Health has established a comprehensive health-care system for 7,037 Thai Muslim pilgrims traveling to the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia. This includes pre-departure vaccinations, medical teams on duty during the pilgrimage, and health monitoring for 14 days after return.
Deputy Minister of Public Health Worachot Sukhonkhachon opened the communicable disease prevention and immunization program for Thai Muslim pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj. Chularatchamontri Arun Boonchom, medical and public health personnel, and participating pilgrims attended the ceremony.
The Deputy Minister noted that the Hajj is a significant religious obligation in Islam. Each year, about 13,000 Thai Muslims receive travel quotas for the pilgrimage. The Ministry provides free required vaccinations, vaccination certificates, and pre-travel medical examinations.
Medical and nursing teams will be deployed to provide care throughout the pilgrimage, in accordance with health guidelines for Hajj travelers. The Department of Disease Control has implemented health preparedness measures, on-site guidance, and screening and surveillance systems at airports and in communities for 14 days after pilgrims’ return.
The 2026 Hajj (Hijri year 1447) will take place from May 25 to 31, 2026. This year, 7,037 Thai Muslim pilgrims have registered. All will receive health screenings and vaccinations against meningococcal disease and influenza at least 10 days before departure, as well as free basic first aid supplies. Services are available through May 20, 2026, at designated Ministry of Public Health facilities nationwide. (NNT)
