BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed all relevant agencies to speed up compensation payments to families of soldiers killed during the Thailand–Cambodia border situation and to boost welfare support for veterans.
On Veterans Day, Anutin presided over a ceremony at Victory Monument to inter the ashes of 42 soldiers who died while performing border-related duties. He instructed the defense minister to ensure that unit commanders assist families who have not yet received all the compensation they are entitled to, providing guidance or acting as intermediaries to ensure payments are completed promptly and in full. Provincial governors and district chiefs were also told to accelerate administrative procedures in areas where the families reside.
The government has increased coordination among agencies to deliver financial assistance and related entitlements, with progress closely monitored to ensure fairness and timeliness. The Royal Thai Army has been assigned to support cases involving legal or procedural difficulties, and authorities reported constructive discussions with all affected families, with continued assistance pledged until they are able to resume normal lives.
The prime minister also acknowledged ongoing challenges faced by veterans from other conflicts, noting that the current monthly allowance of 600 baht is inadequate, especially for those who were injured or disabled. Efforts are being directed toward helping veterans secure sustainable employment and income rather than long-term reliance on state aid, with special attention given to volunteers and those without family support.
