LOPBURI, Thailand – Lopburi Province is abuzz with excitement as residents and government agencies actively prepare for the province’s most prestigious annual event, the 38th King Narai the Great Reign Festival 2026. On January 13, 2026, the festive atmosphere continued to build, particularly at Boonmee Alley in front of King Narai’s Palace, where shops selling Thai fabrics, traditional costumes, and accessories were filled with civil servants, officials, and local residents enthusiastically selecting Thai attire.
The public has been actively purchasing traditional Thai outfits to take part in the citywide campaign “Lopburi Residents United in Traditional Thai Attire,” scheduled for January 14, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. onward. This year, Lopburi Province has designated a full period of traditional dress from January 14 to February 22, 2026, resulting in a lively shopping atmosphere throughout the day.
A survey of business districts and markets in Lopburi’s city center revealed that many Thai costume shops have seen a steady flow of customers. Popular items this year include chong kraben trousers and sabai shawls in black and other modest tones, as well as vintage-style accessories. A local shop owner noted that this year has been significantly more vibrant than previous years, with both regular customers and younger visitors purchasing ready-made outfits for photo check-ins at historical sites, leading to sales increasing severalfold. Prices range from approximately 250–450 baht for chong kraben, 100–200 baht for sabai, 80–150 baht for basic Thai garments, and accessories starting from 50 baht.
Lopburi Governor Wiraphong Rhitrot stated that from February 13 to 22, 2026, Lopburi Province, in collaboration with all sectors, will host the 38th King Narai the Great Reign Festival 2026. He warmly invited both tourists and Lopburi residents to dress in traditional Thai attire and join together in preserving Thai culture by participating in the festival.
The festival will be held from February 13–22, 2026, at King Narai’s Palace and nearby historical sites. The province invites all residents and visitors to “wear chong kraben and sabai” and experience the pride and cultural heritage of the people of Lopburi. (NNT)
