Deng Xijun, China’s Special Envoy for Asian Affairs, is expected to visit Cambodia and Thailand to mediate rising border tensions, as Beijing calls for dialogue and reiterates its neutral stance in the Thai–Cambodian conflict.

BEIJING – China’s special envoy for Asian affairs is set to visit both Cambodia and Thailand on Thursday in an effort to mediate escalating border clashes between the two neighboring countries, as Beijing reiterated that it is not involved in the recent fighting.

A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Deng Xijun, China’s Special Envoy for Asian Affairs, will travel to Cambodia and Thailand to coordinate with both sides and help restore peace as quickly as possible.

China expressed deep concern over the current situation along the Thai–Cambodian border. As a close neighbor and long-standing friend of both countries, Beijing has been actively promoting dialogue and mediation through its own diplomatic channels to help de-escalate tensions and prevent further violence.

The spokesperson confirmed that Deng’s visit aims to encourage both parties to engage constructively, narrow differences, and seek a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

The Chinese Embassy in Thailand also published details from the ministry’s regular press briefing on Wednesday, in response to media questions about reports that Thai forces had seized Chinese-made military equipment, including anti-tank missiles, from Cambodian troops following clashes near Hill 500.

China clarified that it has maintained normal defense cooperation with both Thailand and Cambodia in the past, stressing that such cooperation is not directed at any third country and has no connection to the current border clashes between the two nations. (TNA)
