France backs Malaysia’s Anwar in push for immediate Thailand–Cambodia ceasefire

French Foreign Ministry officials reaffirm France’s support for Malaysia’s ASEAN-led mediation efforts, urging Thailand and Cambodia to return to dialogue and uphold the Kuala Lumpur Peace Declaration amid escalating border tensions.

BANGKOK, Thailand – France has expressed firm support for Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to broker an immediate ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, urging both sides to return to peaceful dialogue under the Kuala Lumpur Peace Declaration.

According to a statement released on December 14 by France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Paris voiced serious concern over the escalating clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. The statement welcomed Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair in facilitating a return to peace talks between the two neighbouring countries.



France said it strongly supports calls for both sides to halt hostilities without delay and to resume negotiations through diplomatic channels. The French government also urged Thailand and Cambodia to act in accordance with the principles of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Declaration, emphasizing the need to resolve disputes through peaceful means.

The statement underscores France’s clear position in backing regional and international efforts aimed at de-escalation and stability in Southeast Asia.
