BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has announced steady progress on a major urban road network project in Trat province, with construction now 26% complete. Managed by the Department of Rural Roads (DRR) under the Trat Comprehensive Urban Plan, the project is scheduled for completion in 2027 and supports improved mobility, trade, and tourism in Thailand’s eastern region.

The new road system, comprising three routes, spans 8.132 kilometers. It will feature four traffic lanes with reinforced concrete pavement, a central median, sidewalks, drainage systems, street lighting, and four reinforced concrete bridges. The route is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the capital district and improve transport links between the city center, international borders, and seaports.

Trat, a key link to the Eastern Economic Corridor and neighboring Cambodia, has seen rapid urban growth. The project supports that expansion while improving logistics for agricultural exports, easing access to tourism destinations such as Koh Chang and Koh Kood, and enhancing regional transport connections.

With a total budget of 914 million baht, construction is currently underway on key structural components, including bridges and road surfacing. The improved route is expected to lower travel times, support local economies, and increase road safety for residents and visitors alike.

The DRR has instructed all contractors to prioritize safety throughout the construction period. Safety signage, flashing warning lights, and visibility aids are being installed, while dust-control measures, such as frequent water spraying, are in place to reduce environmental impacts on nearby communities.
