BANGKOK, Thailand – The Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, Zhang Jianwei, today hailed the recent state visit of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana to China as a “stunning success” that “exceeded expectations.”

The visit, which took place from November 13-17, 2025, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, was described as a significant step in developing bilateral ties. During a press conference at the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok, which began with a moment of silence to mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, Ambassador Zhang emphasized the enduring “China and Thailand are not strangers, but brothers and sisters” relationship.

Ambassador Zhang thanked the Thai Royal Household Bureau, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their close coordination with the Chinese side, which ensured the visit proceeded with dignity despite taking place during Thailand’s period of national mourning. He noted that Their Majesties the King and Queen’s decision to maintain the pre-scheduled visit underscored the great importance they place on the relationship with China. This commitment is seen as a key milestone in continuing the friendship, enhancing political trust, and strengthening cultural exchange, thereby embedding the “one family” sentiment deeper in the hearts of both peoples.

The Ambassador also highlighted the meticulous, simple, yet dignified arrangements and the widespread admiration Their Majesties received across Chinese society, particularly praising the Queen’s grace and intelligence, which has boosted Chinese interest in visiting Thailand. The official visit, the first by a Thai Head of State since the establishment of diplomatic relations, was viewed as a fundamental guarantee for the future of China-Thailand relations. The two heads of state reached a consensus on strengthening strategic alignment to benefit both peoples, indicating that China and Thailand consistently stand together. Looking ahead to the next 50 years, China is eager to promote robust exchanges and cooperation in strategic areas, including the China-Thailand high-speed railway, the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), new energy vehicles, lunar exploration, and the digital and green economies.

Ambassador Zhang revealed that President Xi Jinping praised the Thai Royal Family’s crucial role in supporting bilateral ties and commended the King’s Royal Development Projects, proposing regular high-level exchanges. Furthermore, to underscore China’s commitment, the Ambassador confirmed the Chinese government’s pledge to purchase 500,000 tonnes of Thai rice, with relevant agencies working toward swift implementation.

Addressing the issue of Chinese nationals involved in illegal activities in Thailand, particularly scammer operations, Ambassador Zhang stated that robust cooperation between Chinese and Thai authorities this year has resulted in the repatriation of 5,000 Chinese perpetrators, including a key suspect, Mr. She Zhijiang. He expressed gratitude to the Thai government and Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, stressing that combating these crimes remains a top priority for the Chinese government and requires sustained collaboration with Thai officials.

The Ambassador concluded by noting that China’s people-centric, environmentally conscious modernization drive offers valuable development experience, and China is ready to cooperate with Thailand in finding its own development opportunities for shared prosperity and a common future. (TNA)
