BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Commerce is advancing trade negotiations with key international partners as part of Thailand’s broader strategy to expand export markets and reinforce economic security.

Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun stated that Thailand is preparing to move forward with trade discussions with the United States in line with the agreed timeline, following talks between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and U.S. President Donald Trump. She affirmed that Thailand remains committed to safeguarding national sovereignty and security while promoting economic cooperation that benefits both nations.

To support the negotiations, the Ministry of Commerce is coordinating with all relevant agencies to strengthen Thailand’s readiness across multiple areas, including addressing transshipment concerns and enhancing transparency to build confidence among U.S. businesses. She noted that cooperation between the Ministry and the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) remains constructive, enabling regular exchanges of strategic information to maintain stability in trade and investment relations.

Thailand is also deepening economic partnerships with Canada. During recent discussions with the Canadian Ambassador to Thailand, both sides agreed to promote cooperation in sectors such as agri-food technology, clean energy, digital technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, electric vehicles, AI, and quantum technology. Thailand reiterated its readiness to serve as a Food Security Hub and increase exports of high-quality Thai products, while also exploring the feasibility of a Thailand–Canada Free Trade Agreement and supporting progress on the ASEAN–Canada FTA.

Similar efforts are underway with India, where Thailand is working to strengthen supply chain connections and accelerate negotiations on a comprehensive Thailand–India FTA. Both parties agreed to deepen cooperation under the Thailand–India Strategic Partnership, recognizing India’s significant economic rise and rapidly growing purchasing power, driven by the world’s largest Gen Z population.
