Thai Cabinet approves one-year regularization for undocumented migrant workers

The Ministry of Labour’s new measure allows eligible migrants from Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam to temporarily reside and work in Thailand, addressing labour shortages while requiring biometrics and health coverage for dependents.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Cabinet approved a Ministry of Labour proposal to regularize undocumented migrant workers from Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam for one year to address labour shortages.

Labour Minister Trinuch Thienthong confirmed the measure allows specific groups, including those with expired permits and illegal entrants (Laos and Myanmar only) before the announcement, to temporarily reside and work in Thailand.



Undocumented workers must undergo biometrics collection and obtain home country status certification. Dependents under 18 must secure health insurance linked to the Department of Employment.
