BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand is preparing to host its largest international contemporary art festival, the Thailand Biennale, Phuket 2025, with overall readiness now at 70%. After leading an inspection of exhibition sites from November 8 to 9, Permanent Secretary for Culture Prasop Riangngoen reported that key areas, including art installations and venue preparation, are progressing steadily ahead of the festival’s launch later this month.

Scheduled to run through April 2026, the event will feature works by over 65 Thai and international artists across 19 main venues and 13 art pavilions throughout Phuket. Alongside the exhibitions, the festival will feature musical and theatrical performances, workshops, artist talks, and community art programs to engage both residents and tourists.

The Ministry of Culture is also supporting the creation of permanent public artworks in key locations such as Saphan Hin. These installations will serve as cultural landmarks long after the event concludes, adding lasting value to Phuket’s urban landscape.

Local agencies, including the Phuket Provincial Office, tourism operators, and businesses, are actively preparing for an expected influx of visitors. Hotels, restaurants, transportation services, and schools are coordinating efforts to serve as welcoming hosts for the five-month event.

The Office of Contemporary Art and Culture projects that the Thailand Biennale will draw more than 3 million visitors and generate at least 30 billion baht in economic activity. The event supports the government’s push to leverage cultural heritage as a driver of economic growth and enhance Thailand’s international presence through the arts. (NNT)
