BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed all provincial governors and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to remain on alert as Tropical Storm Kalmaegi intensifies into a typhoon. He stressed the need for timely public communication through all available channels and ordered the 24-hour emergency hotline 1784 to stay on full standby to receive reports and coordinate assistance.

Permanent Secretary for Interior Unsit Sampuntharat reported that the Prime Minister has directed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to work closely with the Thai Meteorological Department to monitor the storm. Kalmaegi is moving west across the central Philippines and is expected to approach Vietnam’s coast before weakening over upper Thailand. Heavy rainfall is forecast in many areas, including Bangkok.

All 76 provincial governors and the BMA have been told to monitor local conditions and keep the public informed. Emergency response teams must ensure rescue equipment is ready, and command centers are prepared to support residents and manage traffic disruptions.

In urban areas, local authorities are clearing drainage paths, installing water pumps, and securing billboards, construction zones, and large trees. Flood-prone areas must be clearly marked, while police and volunteers will assist with traffic and safety. Social media platforms are being used to provide real-time updates.

In affected communities, local officials will distribute food, water, and relief supplies. Once conditions improve, damage will be assessed and compensation provided in accordance with government guidelines. Citizens can request help or report emergencies by calling the 24-hour hotline at 1784. (NNT)
