BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Meteorological Department warns that Tropical Storm Fengchen, currently moving from Luzon into the northern South China Sea, will not directly hit Thailand but will increase rainfall in the northeastern region.
Director of Weather Forecasting Somkuan Tonjan explained that Fengchen is expected to approach southern Hainan, China, and central Vietnam between October 21–23. While the storm stays offshore, it will strengthen the northeast monsoon across Thailand, bringing rain to the northeast and heavy showers along the Gulf coast.
From October 20–26, cold air from southern China will cover Thailand, lowering temperatures, especially in the north and upper northeast. Authorities urge residents to monitor weather updates, prepare warm clothing in the north and northeast, and check drainage systems in the south. Boating should be avoided during rough seas, and caution is advised during thunderstorms. (TNA)
