BANGKOK, Thailand – Tropical Storm Fengchen has formed east of the Philippines as of 10:00 AM on October 18. The storm is expected to pass over Luzon Island before moving into the northern South China Sea.

Meteorologists predict that between October 21–23, the storm will approach southern Hainan Island, China, and the central coast of Vietnam. At the same time, a high-pressure system from China is extending over southern China and northern Vietnam, strengthening northeast winds across Thailand.

Although Fengchen will not enter Thai territory, it is expected to affect local weather. Some rain is forecast in the northeastern region, and strong northeast winds will blow from northern Thailand down to the upper southern provinces, potentially impacting maritime and local activities. (TNA)

Thailand braces for stronger northeast winds from northern to upper southern regions due to Fengchen’s influence and high-pressure systems from China.
