Anutin says Parliament will decide on the draft constitution amendments, with Bhumjaithai pledging not to touch Chapters 1 and 2.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Bhumjaithai Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the decision on which draft of the constitution amendment will become the main proposal will be made by Parliament. He stressed that Bhumjaithai will not amend Chapters 1 and 2 and is not concerned if the government lasts less than four months, as the process has already begun.

Anutin said that the joint parliamentary session on 14–15 October will follow the established parliamentary procedures. While the amendment process ideally requires four months, starting the discussion in Parliament is already considered progress.

When asked if he had gauged the Senate’s position, Anutin said he had not, emphasizing that the process follows democratic mechanisms. He hopes the draft will pass the general principles stage in Parliament before moving to committee consideration, with Bhumjaithai maintaining its position not to amend the first two chapters.

Anutin also highlighted that cooperation with other parties, including the People’s Party, is crucial to initiate the constitutional amendment process and eventually hold a referendum and elections. (TNA)
