Jurin Laksanawisit, List MP and former leader of the Democrat Party, urges the government to clarify if it will support constitution amendments that leave Chapters 1 and 2 untouched.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Jurin Laksanawisit, former leader of the Democrat Party, emphasized the need for the government to clarify its position on proposed amendments to the 2017 constitution. With three drafts under consideration—from Pheu Thai, the People’s Party, and Bhumjaithai with coalition partners—Parliament is set to review them on 14–15 October 2025.

Jurin specifically asked whether the government would support a draft that allows a new constitutional assembly to draft a new constitution without restrictions on Chapters 1 and 2, which cover the structure of the state and the monarchy. He pointed out that previous parliamentary sessions did not yield a clear answer, and stressed that clarity is essential for all parties, including the Democrat Party, which has historically supported a new constitution as long as Chapters 1 and 2 remain untouched.
