Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul says the reclamation of Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo Province will be handled according to international standards and will visit the border area soon to support ongoing operations.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has announced that the process of reclaiming and managing the Ban Nong Chan border area in Sa Kaeo Province will be conducted according to international standards, following a controversy involving “Gun Jom Phalang” using loudspeakers to play disturbing sounds aimed at Cambodian residents. The incident led to complaints to the United Nations, highlighting sensitivities over national sovereignty.

Speaking on the matter, Anutin said, “No Thai wants anyone to infringe on our sovereignty. Gun Jom Phalang acted to make it clear that this is Thai territory. We will handle this in the most internationally acceptable way.” He also praised Gun’s past efforts in assisting local communities, noting that during previous crises, Gun’s aid often surpassed government relief efforts. Anutin emphasized that government support must come first, while individuals like Gun can supplement these efforts to benefit citizens.

Responding to criticism from Veera Somkhwamkid, who noted that Gun “at least does not steal from the nation,” Anutin said, “He is right — if he doesn’t steal from the nation, that’s good. Neither do I. I love my country.”

On calls for a site visit to Ban Nong Chan, Anutin confirmed he would go soon, stressing that any visit would support, not disrupt, official operations. Regarding the Joint Border Committee (JBC) Chair, Anutin confirmed that Prasart Prasartvinij will remain in the position, emphasizing the importance of competence over politics. (TNA)
