BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) today, acknowledging the Army’s operational plan to address Cambodian encroachment in the Ban Nong Chan and Nong Ya Kaew border areas in Sa Kaeo province.
Anutin confirmed everything is fully prepared as proposed by the Army but refused to release details, citing the plan as highly confidential. He sidestepped questions regarding whether the action could provoke conflict, stating he would visit the site at an appropriate time.
NSC Secretary-General Chatchai Bangchuad said the meeting focused on Thailand’s four key border demands including mine clearance cooperation, suppression of call center scams, border area management specifically citing Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo province. He confirmed no new measures were issued specifically for the eviction of Cambodian settlers in Ban Nong Chan.
With the October 10 deadline for withdrawal now expired, tensions remained high at the border. Large public notices were posted reiterating Thailand’s demand for the Cambodian settlers to leave the area, citing the September General Border Committee (GBC) agreement. (TNA)
