BANGKOK, Thailand – The new US Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) to Thailand, Elizabeth J. Konick, has announced her readiness to work constructively to strengthen the comprehensive relations between the United States and Thailand.
The announcement was made during a reception hosted by H.E. Mr. Robert F. Godec, the United States Ambassador to Thailand, at the Ambassador’s Residence to introduce the new DCM to diplomatic and business circles, both Thai and foreign.
Ambassador Robert F. Godec emphasized the significance of the nearly 200-year-long, enduring relationship between the US and Thailand. He attributed this longevity to the strong bonds between the people of the two nations, as well as the diligent work of US Department of State officials. On this occasion, he introduced Mrs. Elizabeth J. Konick, the new DCM, along with the new team of officials who will reinforce the work of the US Embassy, replacing those whose assignments have concluded.
Mrs. Konick, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, joined the State Department in 2003. This is her first posting to Thailand, though she has visited multiple times. She expressed her continued appreciation and warmth for the friendly Thai hospitality, and lauded the Embassy staff’s dedication, which she described as principled, energetic, and mission-driven.

Mrs. Konick stated that the strong bond between the two nations is not merely historical, but is crucially driven by people-to-people ties, friendship, and cooperation exchanges between Americans and Thais, calling it the true engine of the Thailand-US relationship. She pledged her commitment to advancing this excellent bilateral relationship by supporting key missions in security, trade and business development, public health, education, and cultural exchange.
Elizabeth Konick is Deputy Chief of Mission in Thailand beginning in September 2025. Prior to this assignment, she served as Executive Director and Deputy Executive Secretary in the Office of the Secretary of State for three years.
Liz has served at U.S. missions in Turkey, Portugal, Serbia, and Mexico. As Principal Officer in the Azores, she expanded relationships between U.S. business investors and sustainable food resources.
In Washington D.C, her assignments have included Executive Director for the Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR), INR Watch Director, Political Officer in the Office of European Union and Regional Affairs (EUR/ERA), and Management Officer in the Operations Center.
Liz is a graduate of Cornell University and holds a master’s degree in education from New York University. She speaks Turkish, Serbian, Romanian, Spanish, and German. (TNA)
