BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has dismissed speculation about his early resignation, stressing he will serve out his full term.
Speaking at the Bangkok Metropolitan Council’s extraordinary session to review the 2026 budget, Chadchart said the spending plan emphasizes both “capillaries” and “arteries” — local district projects such as roads and flood barriers, alongside major investments like a new hospital and earthquake monitoring systems.
On flooding, he noted high water volumes from the Bhumibol and Sirikit dams, nearly matching levels in 2011. However, he assured that improved coordination with the Royal Irrigation Department and neighboring provinces, combined with reinforced floodwalls and sandbag lines along the Chao Phraya River, will help the capital withstand inflows and possible storms.
Addressing rumors of resignation, Chadchart insisted stepping down early would waste public funds on another election and disrupt coordination between the governor and city council terms. “I have never thought about resigning before my term ends,” he said. (TNA)
