PATTAYA, Thailand – A speeding motorcycle collided with a group of Indian tourists crossing the street in central Pattaya early Friday, seriously injuring the two riders, police reported.
The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on September 12 in front of a hotel along the Second Road, intersecting Phra Tamnak Road in South Pattaya. The red-and-black Honda CBR 150 motorcycle crashed, leaving its front badly damaged. The rider, identified only as Ms. Benyaporn, and the passenger, Ms. Saranya, were both seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.
Witnesses said the motorcycle had been traveling at high speed and the driver honked to warn a group of Indian tourists crossing the street arm-in-arm. The tourists reportedly ignored the warnings and continued walking, resulting in the collision. After the crash, the tourists allegedly entered the nearby hotel, leaving the injured riders behind until rescue teams arrived.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage and attempting to contact the tourists for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities reminded both pedestrians and drivers to exercise caution, especially in busy areas of Pattaya at night.
Local residents commented online, with some criticizing the tourists for ignoring traffic rules, walking in the street instead of the sidewalk, and ignoring honks from oncoming vehicles, while others expressed concern for the injured and urged caution for visitors traveling abroad.
