
BANGKOK, Thailand – The government is organizing activities to commemorate the 100th birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol – King Rama VIII – on the 20th of next month.
Prime Minister’s Office Minister Suchart Tancharoen presided over a ritual to pay respect to sacred entities ahead of the commencement of activities honoring His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol – King Rama VIII – on the occasion of his 100th birthday anniversary. The ritual took place at Wat Suthat Thep Wararam, also known as Wat Suthat, and was attended by Prime Minister’s Office Permanent Secretary Yupa Taweewattanakitboworn, along with the office’s management and personnel.
Phra Phrom Wachiramuni, the abbot of Wat Suthat, delivered a speech on the merits and history of the temple. Minister Suchart then gave a speech on the origins and details of the activities honoring King Ananda Mahidol. These activities will take place from September 20 to 27. Religious ceremonies will be held simultaneously nationwide on September 20 to make merit for King Rama VIII. In Bangkok, Wat Suthat will be the main site for the ceremony. In the provinces, ceremonies will be held at statues of King Rama VIII, city halls, or other appropriate locations. In other countries, Thai embassies and consulates will determine suitable venues for the ceremonies.
Commemorative medals and coins are also being produced by the Treasury Department to mark the occasion. Meanwhile, Thailand Post will issue commemorative stamps. Additionally, the Prime Minister’s Office will publish a commemorative book titled “Little Lords – Young Kings.” (NNT)
