PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in parts of northeastern, eastern, and western southern Thailand, particularly in Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, and Phang Nga, with risks of flash floods and runoff in hilly and low-lying areas. Bangkok and its vicinity are expected to see thunderstorms in 60% of areas.

Authorities clarified that Typhoon Podul, currently over the Pacific Ocean, is forecast to pass over Taiwan and make landfall in eastern China on Tuesday night (Aug 13). The storm is not expected to enter Thailand, so Pattaya and other coastal areas will remain unaffected.

Sea conditions remain moderate in the upper Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, with waves reaching 1–2 meters, and over 2 meters in localized thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to exercise caution in stormy areas.

Pattaya residents can expect normal weather, though occasional showers from local thunderstorms may occur. Temperatures in Bangkok and surrounding areas will range from 25–36°C.
