BANGKOK, Thailand – A 26-year-old man riding a motorcycle broke through a barricade and crashed into a concrete cover, causing him to fall into an underground cable trench 10 meters deep filled with water, resulting in his tragic drowning.
At around 12:30 a.m. on August 11, an investigator from Thung Song Hong Police Station received a report of a motorcycle accident on Chaeng Watthana Road outbound near the Administrative Court in Lak Si district, Bangkok. Rescue volunteers from Poh Teck Tung Foundation rushed to the scene.
The accident occurred near the Government Complex BTS Station on a five-lane road. The left three lanes were closed for an underground cable installation project. Authorities found a cream-colored motorcycle with Bangkok registration fallen and heavily damaged after crashing into a power generator near the trench, which was about 10 meters deep. Rescue personnel rappelled down and found the rider drowned. The victim was identified as Santisuk (surname withheld), age 26, wearing a blue sports shorts and a short-sleeved round-neck T-shirt. His body showed injuries, including a fractured skull.

Workers at the construction site reported that the three lanes were closed with warning signals during the operation to drill underground walls for cable conduit installation. Suddenly, the motorcycle rider ignored the barricades and crashed into the concrete cover, causing him to fall into the water-filled trench. The construction area has been closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. for two weeks before the incident.
Police are continuing the investigation and consulting the supervising engineer to conclude the accident’s cause. The victim’s body was sent to Bhumibol Hospital, and relatives were notified to arrange for the funeral. (TNA)
