PSC Growling Swan Golf played out of Bogey’s Bar & Grill

Thursday, December 12 Stableford. Greenwood G.C.

Our normal departure time to head to the course in the bus at 8.30 am did not happen. A courtesy phone call was made to one late inebriated golfer (Colm Lawlor of Irish decent) just prior to leaving. Still sleeping, he pleaded his phone did not wake him and could we wait 10 minutes as he really wanted to play. 20 minutes later he weaved in and boarded the bus, without hat and money!

Transpires he was seen staggering home at 3.45 am beside known late night prowler Paul Hack, who made the most of the PSC Xmas Party on his last night in Pattaya before heading back to Oz.

Another “last to leave” the party player, suffering the effects of the PSC all night free flow service, was stalwart Steve Younger. Despite these guys lack of sleep they were at the end of the day, winners!

On board bus votes resulted in the two longest putts being shelved and that allowed podium results to include 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. All NTP par three were in play for a prize also.

As is common, this course was well presented and with perfect golfing weather twelve dedicated blokes went to battle.

As previously indicated the late party animals fared better than most and despite this scribe having five beers before tee off and another half dozen on the course, making an effort to get into “the zone”, was unable to capitalize.

So with Colm Lawlor, Bill Steinmann (who had an eagle) and Steve Younger all locked up with 36 points apiece, it went to the count back system for final placing. When handed his third prize, Steve was heard to mutter “Is that all?”

A special mention must go to Keith “Kissy” Buchanan for winning three of the four NTP’s and managing to 3 putt them all!

Winners from Greenwood GC

1st – Colm Lawlor (15) 36 pts.

2nd – Bill Steinmann (10) 36 pts.

3rd – Steve Younger (13) 36 pts.

Near pins: B2 – Bill Steinmann, B5 – Keith Buchanan, A2 – Keith Buchanan, and A7 – Keith Buchanan.

Back for the presentations at Bogey’s Bar and Grill, our playing host Peter “don’t interrupt when I speak” Grey welcomed everyone and thanked them for turning up to play. There was one welcome to Sal Brizzi and one farewell to Sal Brizzi and then it was straight on to the awards. Great to see you Sal, albeit briefly!

At the completion of this part of the wind up to today’s outing, Peter publicly thanked Colin Stielow for his honesty in returning a one thousand baht note that Peter had inadvertently given him with change for his green fee voucher. Well done Colin!

Peter also mentioned that two guys had come forward to assist in keeping an incentive for the “Hole in One” prize to continue, now that last week Colm Mullen took out the previous sponsors 6,500 prize. Steve Younger has pledged 300 baht a month and Stu Rifkin a 100 baht a month for the next 12 months. Thanks guys! If there any others that would like to tip please yell out.

Wrapping up the presentations Peter said “Grubs Up” and all headed to the buffet table for a nice bit of spag boll compliments of Bogey’s Bar and Grill.
