Monday, Feb. 20, Royal Lakeside – Stableford

A smaller turnout than usual today for the slightly longer trip to the Royal Lakeside course.  This venue seems to be developing into one of those courses that golfers either love or hate.  Nobody can criticize the layout or condition of the course, but many don’t like the soft sand in the bunkers, or the hard unreceptive greens.

The course certainly suited Gordon Melia, who made a welcome (and long overdue) return to form to comfortably win the honours on the day.  Gordon’s handicap had been in danger of slipping to be higher than his wife’s, but hopefully he’s now halted the slide.

Colin Greig relaxes before one of his winning rounds. Colin Greig relaxes before one of his winning rounds.

PJ Redmond also made a long overdue return to the podium, and there was a rumour that this was enough to put him in a good mood, but unfortunately it (the rumour) couldn’t be confirmed.

2nd PJ Redmond (23) 33pts

3rd Colin Grieg (10) 33pts

Wednesday, Feb. 22, Treasure Hill – Stableford

Following lobbying from some of our senior members, the decision was made to play this brute of a course off the yellow tees, rather than our normal white tees.  The shorter course distance was reflected in a general improvement in the scoring, with four players equaling or bettering their handicaps.

Colin Greig continued his run of good form to win the A flight, despite trying his best to “blob” the 18th hole, eventually putting onto the green from 30 yards off, and securing the single point necessary to take the honours.

Gordon Melia also continued his new found form to win the B flight on a count back over Gez Williams.

We also welcomed back dave Keats after a long spell in the UK, and he made a winning return, taking 3rd place in the B flight and a near pin.

Friday, Feb. 24, Bangpra – Stableford

Our slightly later tee time than usual seemed to suit a number of players, with over half the field of 20 players scoring more than 30 points.  The course was in good shape, with the usual slick greens catching out many unwary players.  Starting from the 10th tee, the pace of play was slow, but not ridiculously so, and the round was completed in a little over four and a half hours.

Colin Greig and Rab McDonald both had tremendous back nine scores of 24 points, but there’s no stopping Colin at the moment as he continued his inexorable push towards the Golfer of the Month title.  Colin has recorded 3 wins, a second and a third place in the last five rounds and is surely now uncatchable.

A Flight

1st Colin Greig (10) 39pts

2nd Rab McDonald (15) 36pts

3rd Geoff Parker (16) 34pts

B Flight

1st Gez Williams (20) 37pts

2nd Mike Corner (22) 35pts

3rd Geoff Hart (22) 35pts

Following the recent demise of the Bunker Bar, the Bunker Boys now play out of the Bowling Green on Soi X-Zyte between Pattaya 3rd Road and Soi Buakhaow.  We play three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why come and join us.  We meet at the Bowling Green at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players with valid handicaps are always welcome.  For more information call Dave on 087 1469978, email dave.
