Le Café Royale Cheese and Wine Party starts run-up to final four days

Wine and cheese was on the menu at Le Café Royale in the run-up to the final four days of this year’s Pattaya Gay Festival.

In the run up to the final four days of the Pattaya Gay Festival 2005, Le Café Royale held its annual sponsor-organized Cheese and Wine Party.

This is the first PGF event held there since Ian McKnight passed away and those attending were reminded that the PGF-supported charity HEARTT2000 had received a bequest from his estate of 100,000 baht.

The final total raised during the evening was around 60,000 baht thanks, as always, to those who generously donated prizes for the lucky draw.

The “Final Four Days” begin on November 29 with informal activities at the bars in Jomtien and Boyztown, November 30 a dinner at Bruno’s and the final Street Party in Boyztown on December 2. December 1 will, as always, be observed as World AIDS Day.

New honorary member at Rotary Club Taksin Pattaya

Peter Nordhues

It was not an ordinary weekly meeting of the Rotary Club Taksin Pattaya on October 27, as District Governor Jin Srikasikorn of district 3340, along with District Secretary Chalow Paranan, paid a visit.

It was a special night for the Rotary Club Taksin Pattaya, as District Governor Jin Srikasikorn of District 3340, along with District Secretary Chalow Paranan, paid a visit, and Premruedee Jittiwutthikarn received an honorary membership.

Spokesperson and board member John M Botting welcomed the attending members and guests. Following the reports of the secretary and the treasurer, Peter Thorand, the assistant to the district governor, reported on several projects before the governor himself took the floor.

Jin said that his official visit shall support and strengthen this club and all Rotary Clubs together. All of them do a lot for the community and the Rotary Club Taksin Pattaya is very active and enjoys a good name in the district.

The second highlight of the evening followed right after the governor’s speech. Premruedee Jittiwutthikarn, owner of King Seafood Restaurant and former president of YWCA, received an honorary membership. Peter Thorand said in his acknowledgment that Ms Premruedee has been close to the club ever since its establishment and supported it greatly via the YWCA.

Premruedee thanked those present for this great honor and showed once again her good heart by donating 15,000 baht of a collection for projects of the club. Another part of the same collection will go to the YWCA for the SOS Rice Project.

Third highlight of the evening was the awarding of Charles Evans, future president of the club, with the Paul Harris Fellowship Medal for his tireless work in the Rotary movement.

The end of the evening brought a surprise to all attendees. The district committee announced Dieter H Precourt, former president and now vice president of Rotary Club Taksin Pattaya, as the new assistant to the governor of district 3340 for the Rotary year of 2006-2007. This marks the second consecutive time that the Rotary Club Taksin Pattaya has provided the assistant.

Jazz Pit Pub fills will people celebrating Ramil’s Birthday

Thomas Reimer

On the 7th of November the Jazz Pit Pub on Soi 5 was crowded with people who came to celebrate Ramil Medyarov’s birthday. The party was arranged by Ramil’s friends and family and had been kept top secret from the birthday boy. Ramil arrived for work as he does every evening and was shocked by the huge “Happy birthday, Ramil” banner above his parking spot. All the way to the entrance there were funny welcome posters and the Jazz Pit itself was decorated nicely.

The birthday boy surrounded by beautiful women at his surprise party.

Ramil couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw so many of his friends and colleagues all welcoming and congratulating him. What a surprise it was!

Ramil is a well-known person in the music business all over Thailand. He is originally from the Russian city Ufa, and graduated from Bashkirian Conservatory. Ramil came to Thailand 12 years ago with the popular Russian Jazz band ‘Doostar’. He had been performing with the ‘East Coast Band’ for 4 years in major Bangkok hotels and then moved to Phuket. He came to Pattaya in 1998 and played in Delaney’s Irish Pub and at the Dolphin Seafood Restaurant and has been playing at the Jazz Pit for about three and a half years.

People from all over the world could be found at Ramil’s party; from Thailand, Russia, Germany, the UK, Korea, the US, France, and more. Ramil’s colleagues Thomas Reimer (guitarist), Brad Icenning (flute), Hans Kallen (drums), Poul (trumpet), and Priscella Limbaga, James Sore, John Hardman and Monika Rottman (all vocalists) performed a brilliant jam session.

We are so sorry for everyone who missed this wonderful party and would like to remind everyone that they can come and enjoy the Jazz Pit Band every night from 8 p.m.

Bangkok Pattaya Hospital helps local charities

The now annual event of the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital’s Charity Fair was held in the foyer last weekend. With more than a dozen organizations and groups displaying and selling, and many charities being the beneficiaries, the fair was well attended, and visitors (and patients) all left feeling they had scored some wonderful bargains. What was also noticeable were the stall holders themselves who were buying items from other stall holders! Takes the sellers of bargains to spot other bargains!

The Camillian Center was one of the many beneficiaries of the fair.

Amongst those who were represented at the Charity Fair were some of the stalwart groups at the forefront of fund-raising, including the Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC), the Rayong Ladies Center (RLC) and the Jesters Care for Kids. Others included the Pattaya Lions Club, the North Star Library, the Victory Family Church Mercy Ministry, Pattaya City Expats Club, the Association of Filipinos in Thailand and the Pattaya Mail itself, all of whom are also noted for their charity involvement locally.

The children had fun at the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital’s Charity Fair.

Charities that were beneficiaries included the Fountain of Life, the Camillian Center, the Tamar Center, the Remand Training Center, the Redemptorist Center and the Huay Pong Center, though there were other smaller organizations, schools and temples that were also being assisted by the various sellers.

Hard Rock Hotel and Pattaya Mail join hands in support of Camillian Social Center, Rayong

On the evening of December 2, H.E. Sontaya Khunplome, advisor to the prime minister will preside over the annual Christmas Tree Light Up ceremonies at the Hard Rock Hotel.

Andrew Khoo, general manager of the Hard Rock Hotel, Pattaya, in conjunction with Peter Malhotra, MD of the Pattaya Mail, will host a fun packed but truly meaningful event at the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya.

The Camillian Social Center’s work is being carried out by the Camillian Religious Order of Thailand, headed by Fr. Giovanni Contarin and Fr. Siranon Sanpetch.

This year’s Christmas Tree Light Up will signify the beginning of the Christmas season with an emphasis on the Hard Rock ethos of “Love all, serve all”. This year’s charity of choice is the Camillian Centre for AIDS victims in Rayong.

The Camillian Center provides treatment, care and support to the marginalised HIV / AIDS people in the Eastern provinces. The center is a caring community of more than 80 people with full-blown AIDS. In a homelike setting, people suffering from AIDS are taken care of mentally, psychologically and physically according to their individual needs. They are encouraged to live and helped to die in peace and with dignity. Those who are still capable of working are encouraged to care for others and help in the running of the center in accordance with their abilities.

The Camillian Center helps orphans with AIDS to get medical treatment and education, and support children affected by AIDS. They accommodate 27 children who are infected by HIV / AIDS. They provide a home with staff who care for the children as their own; help them feel loved, accepted and to stabilize their health through medicine so the may interact with other children.

The center also carries out programs to educate and train the public on HIV / AIDS and develop communication skills for care and support of patients. To help accomplish this, the center organizes participatory workshops about HIV / AIDS with small groups of young workers and students so they may go back and influence their peer groups in work places or schools; to follow up with a specific prevention action plan.

The Camillian Center also provides holistic counselling services through building up of a Network for HIV / AIDS patients and to cooperate with NGOs in the region and country. The HIV / AIDS Network has 23 associations with more than 1500 members. They keep close contact, sharing experiences and supporting each other mutually in fighting against AIDS.

There is also a book, ‘The Bridge of Hope’, produced by Sister Rita Anutranont that helps people take a closer look into the precious lives, sufferings, along with hope for the future, in heart wrenching life stories written by the orphans and children living with HIV / AIDS. Read about their teacher Ekkarak Pinijpornprapa, Nurse Nijaree Tulatarn, Mother Mayo and Georgina who share their feelings and emotions toward the children.

The center’s work is being carried out by the Camillian Religious Order of Thailand, headed by Fr. Giovanni Contarin and Fr. Siranon Sanpetch, in the spirit of their Founder St. Camillus de Lellis (1550-1614) who started “the new school of charity” to serve the poor and sick in Italy as “a mother cares for her sick child”.
