“Die Weltenbummler” now reside in Pattaya

“Die Weltenbummler” now reside in Pattaya

(From left to right) Mam, one of the serving beauties at Thai Garden, Ulla H๖cking, her husband Achim is hiding behind Elfi, next to him is Gerd Tapken. Brunhilde Schultes is hiding behind Stefan Kaspar, while Ille Tapken is tall enough to glimpse over his shoulder. Yupin, long-time sweetheart of all guests is small enough for Dieter Precourt to pear over, and founding member Anita Schoch-Kaspar and Horst Haehl round out the group.

The English translation for Weltenbummler is Globetrotters. But these aren’t the very tall, dark skinned, “all-American” guys with basketballs; Pattaya’s “Globetrotters” (Die Weltenbummler) are people of all sizes, both sexes and any nationality, yet they have to be able to speak German.

The Die Weltenbummler group was formed because some of the German language speaking people felt that there was a lack of a German language clubs in Pattaya. So five energetic ladies decided to do something about it. Three of them are Germans, Ann Paschalis, Monika Podleska and Roswitha Thein, one, Anita G. Schoch-Kaspar, is from hilly Switzerland and the last one, Elfi Seitz, comes from the country of the Sound of Music, Austria.

Put anything in the hands of these girls and you can be sure it gets done. Within no time the venue for the club was agreed upon. Since Elfi is the guest service manager of the Thai Garden Resort, it is surely very handy to hold the meetings there. The very first lunch meeting of this newly founded club was held on March 14th. Some of the founding members were in Europe at the time, but 10 people still came together to talk, exchange ideas and watch as one of the Thai Garden’s staff taught them how to make flowers out of tissue paper.

It was agreed that the meetings will be held every second Thursday at 12:00 noon at the (air-conditioned) Moon River Pub at the Thai Garden Resort. There will be activities at every meeting, German language books and magazines will be on display, which can be rented out for 20 baht, and some of the board members already have some surprises up their sleeves.

The next lunch meeting is already planned and will be held on Thursday, April 11th at 12 noon. People who can speak German are invited to come along and take a look, and if they like it, they can become members.

Association of Filipinos in Thailand Eastern Chapter clean up at the beach

People of all ages joined in the fun.

Jomtien Beach was a little cleaner than it was found last Sunday after the Association of Filipinos in Thailand, along with over 50 members and friends of the AFT Eastern Chapter joined hands and grabbed rakes to aid the city’s environmental campaign.

While their goal was a valuable one, the spirit of the day was good fun and doing their bit for the community. People of all ages took part in the effort, raking the sand and bagging refuse left by careless residents, tourists and business operators. Pattaya City provided a truck for the group to place their spoils, disposing of the refuse in the appropriate manner.

The Association of Filipinos in Thailand left Jomtien a better place last Sunday, and certainly much cleaner.

The event was organized by Virginian Sorensen, a member of the AFT Eastern Chapter, who said that there is a great number of Filipino residents living in and working Thailand, including the Eastern Region, who regularly get together. An event such as the beach cleaning is part of their contribution to keeping Pattaya clean and bettering the general environment for future generations.

Participants enjoyed their day out and were rewarded for their efforts with refreshments and snacks afterwards.

Casa Pascal is now 1 year old and ready for Brunch

by Miss Terry Diner

Pascal Schnyder and his wife Kim welcomed their many friends to the first Casa Pascal Sunday Brunch as a celebration of the first anniversary of their restaurant.

Pascal Schnyder and his wife Kim last week welcomed their many friends to the first Casa Pascal Sunday Brunch as a celebration of the first anniversary of their restaurant on Pattaya Second Road (next to Ruen Thai). Many of Pattaya’s “foodies” were present, such as the Rothsteins and the Freis, who were seen to indulge their appetites on the extensive Brunch Buffet. The Brunch will be held each Sunday from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m.

A full review of this new development in the Casa Pascal Restaurant will be done in a few weeks in the Dining Out column; however, as an introductory offer, Pascal is presenting each diner with a complimentary glass of house champagne and if you come in a group of four people you are only charged for three. This offer will extend till the end of May.

Geordie Dave wasn’t nervous about walking 8 kilometers

Geordie Dave, a regular at Nervous Wreck Soi Yamato, decided the Rotary Charity Walk was a worthy cause, worthy enough for him to do the eight kilometer walk himself. The training schedule included strenuous walks from one bar to the next in Soi Yamato collecting sponsorship.

Geordie Dave (2nd left in the white T-shirt) and friends after the walk.

Geordie Dave completed the eight kilometers, successfully raising 4440 baht in sponsorship. Geordie Dave’s comments were that it was for a good cause and it was good to see all the businesses and bars in Soi Yamato getting involved.

This will certainly not be the only time that Soi Yamoto will be involved in worthwhile causes - the Nervous Wreck will continue to support the local charities and involve all businesses in Soi Yamoto.
