Looking for dog food

Editor
We are sharing this with a few people, testing the waters, asking for assistance, be it dog food, donations or input. Some of you have and continue to donate. We and all the dogs say thank you very much.
The photo shows a week’s supply of food for 40 homeless, stray dogs, except for the 5 bottles of water that is used daily. It’s 7 bags, around 60 kilos (130 pounds). Out of pocket baht is around 3,000 baht per week, which is quite reasonable, compared to prices in the USA.
To get a dog spayed, including a week’s stay, is also 3,000 baht. We seem to get just enough between us and donations to buy the dog food, manage a few vet visits for injuries, and now and again a spaying. We’re grateful for this.
We are looking at all avenues to see how we can get more spayed or neutered, depending on who we can catch or make friends with so they will come with us. We are always open for suggestions and donations.
At this point we are just happy that we can give them another day to live, one day at a time, until we can do more. A wag of a tail is worth a thousand words. We count our blessings that we can do what we do. Some of our best friends are dogs and the Thais and Farangs that understand and help.
We put collars on some, so they are not picked up and taken to death sentence, shelter.

Gerry Rasmus

Roads /Planning Department, if there is one?

Editor;
Dear Mayor, I live in Soi Wat Boon; for the last 2 weeks or more there has been a lot of activity putting 150mm drains in. Unfortunately it’s never finished. They dig up the tract, put pipe in, fill it with what they took out, and move on. As time goes by the dirt settles, the tract deepens, till it becomes impossible for a car to cross it without the risk of damaging it. I have 3 ways of leaving my home, but there is no way I can escape the ditch.
Why can’t they finish a job properly here?
Cars are not cheap.

Beach erosion

Editor;
Re: Councilman lobbies for Jomtien Beach erosion funds (PM Friday, 21 September 2012) - There have been some excellent studies on beach erosion. One classic study showed how the waves tend to come in on an angle, say 20 degrees to the shore, and sweep down the coast. What proved very effective was installing some perpendicular to the shore type of barriers extending outward. Does not impede water flow but does help catch the sand. Just piling rocks above the shore line does not do much. Wave erosion on lower portions is already done. I don’t see any science being applied here.

Promote Thai medicine

Editor;
Re: Thailand Medical & Wellness Tourism Trade Fam Trip 2012 Highlights Country’s Leadership as Health & Wellness Destination (PM Tuesday, 18 September 2012) - It’s always great to see the government pushing and promoting what’s best in Thailand. Without a doubt many Thai hospitals are far better equipped and staffed then their western counterparts. But it is also important to promote the Thai traditional medicine potential for both Thai’s and foreigners. Thailand has already won the accolade of Spa Capital of Asia, Thai Traditional Medicine its root also should be promoted abroad given the great benefits of well being it can bring us all.

Pensioners aren’t living poorly

Editor;
Re: Balloons galore! (PM, Hillary Friday, 21 September 2012) - The myth that pensioners living full time in Thailand on a retirement visa are poorly off irks me to no end. If you are British you must demonstrate your income in order to renew your visa annually. Otherwise you are living here illegally. Also, you can complain? Your income is so much higher and your standard of living is so much greater here than it would be “back home” that any comparison is laughable.
