Clapton didn’t disappoint
Editor;
Re: Clapton fans… (PM 25 January 2011). Clapton is the
guitar god we came to see (in Bangkok February 2011), and he didn’t
disappoint. He played with intensity and precision; no phoning it in here.
It was telling that even the people in the good seats repeatedly looked back
up over their shoulders to watch the close-ups of Clapton’s hands when the
appeared on the overhead screens for those in the more-distant seats.
An acoustic portion of the show felt like the band was
hanging out on a front porch, and the bluesy stuff rocked. Clapton played
more songs from his time with Derek and the Dominos - Why Does Love Got To
Be So Sad? and Nobody Knows When You’re Down, and a fiery rendition of
Motherless Children was a fine choice from his solo career.

It’s about time
Editor;
Re: Automania, (PM Friday, 13 April 2012). Its about time
Thailand got serious on the road rules and crazy drivers. I haven’t been in
Thailand for about 7 months now, but first started coming to Thailand in
2003. Never saw so much speeding and crazy driving in my life. Drivers in
Australia would be locked up for doing half of what they get away with in
Thailand.

What does one thing have to do with the other?
Dear Editor:
In response to my two letters on rats someone posted a
comment on your website in which he noted how chimps are abused in animal
research and then ridiculed me for caring about the rats. What does one
thing have to do with the other?
In fact it’s disgusting to lecture me about the cruelty
of animal research when no one in this country has written more about this
subject than I have. For example, I had a guest column published in the
Bangkok Post (“A Cruel Hoax”, August 22, 2007) in which I condemned animal
research. And last year I had a letter in the “Nation” in which I condemned
animal research in general and the abuse of chimps in particular.
But the point I was making in my Mailbag letter is
that unpopular animals such as rats suffer just as much as other animals.
But it’s not just the rats I’m concerned about. For example, how many of you
readers can say you gave one minute of thought to how much the animal you
ate last night suffered before he ended up on your dinner plate? Even
animals that people pretend to care about such as dogs and elephants are
horribly abused.
I realize that by exposing human cruelty I make many
people angry. But I learned a long time ago that I can choose to be kind or
choose to be popular. But I can never be both.

Fraud in Banglamung
transport dept
Editor;
We went to Banglamung transport department to simply
transfer a motorbike in my fianc้’s name. An official worker directed us to
table at rear of the office where a worker assisted us. The woman gave us
prices that seemed very expensive, but because we thought she worked for the
government it must be correct. We were charged nearly 2000 baht for this
simple process.
The next day we spoke to a motorbike shop to find we had
been scammed by an agent working there and the government workers receive
commission on the money stolen from when a foreigner is present. We
contacted her to say we wanted the process stopped and she refused. We
contacted Chonburi transport to find the real cost of this was only 150
baht, not 2000 baht. This is downright theft and I will take this as far as
possible.
