We are 17!

Dr. Iain Corness

In human development terms, turning 17 is something of a milestone. For me, it meant getting a driver’s license, arguing with my father and leaving home. I’m sure you went through something similar. The adolescent rite of passage.

But for a newspaper, turning 17 marks a different type of milestone. There is no room for adolescent petulance and spur of the moment decisions. For a newspaper to turn 17 this represents a gritty determination to succeed, despite all the pitfalls placed in its way. Getting the news(paper) to the readers can sometimes be a daunting task, but like the Pony Express, the news always got through.

In the early days, the Pattaya Mail was printed in Bangkok, with the individual pages presented to the printers in a ‘paste-up’ format, brought to the nation’s capital by a breathless messenger on a bus. These days, printing is done in Pattaya and everything is electronic, but the same spirit exists in the dedicated staff. The news must get through.

We have been there for you for the past 17 years, and intend to be there for you for another 17. The news will get through! Thank you Pattaya Mail staff and contributors.
