PE Teacher / Coach
When the Year 13 IB students from Garden
International School celebrated their Graduation Dinner on May 27, 2010,
the rest of GIS bid a fond farewell to three of the finest young people
the school has ever seen.

Stian Jonsgard
Stian Jonsgard, Jan Pornpherm and Nastassia (Naz)
Neufeld have all played major roles in GIS sports and extra-curricular
activities over the past three to fifteen years. Their presence will be
missed.
Stian Jonsgard started at GIS in 1995 as a
Primary student. After 15 years, he has grown into a fine young man with
a bright future ahead of him.
Stian played on the Gold medal winning U15 FOBISSEA
Football team in 2007 and quickly became the leader of the varsity team.
While football has always been Stian’s favorite
sport, he was never afraid of trying something new. In 2007 he started
to play basketball for the U15 FOBISSEA team and before long he was the
captain of the varsity team. Stian currently holds the record for points
scored in 36 consecutive games, is third on the all-time scoring list
and is tied for third with 41 games played at GIS.

Stian currently holds the record for points scored in 36 consecutive
games.
In Year 12, Stian decided to give volleyball and
softball a try. While they may not have been his favorite sports, he
always gave a great effort and competed hard.
Stian was more than just an athlete. He was an active
member of the school’s Drama Department with leading roles in two of the
school’s productions, “Totally Over You” and “Macbeth Mixed Up”.
Stian was a role model and leader to his classmates,
his teammates and the younger students at the school. His work ethic,
dedication and generosity will always be remembered at GIS.
Jan Pornpherm has been a student at GIS for
just over 13 years. He was not only a talented athlete, but a very
gifted musician.

Jan Pornpherm
Jan played on the Gold medal winning U15 FOBISSEA
Football team in 2007 and soon found himself playing an important role
on the varsity team.
Like Stian, Jan started playing basketball for the
U15 FOBISSEA team and before long became the starting point guard for
the varsity team. While he was not a high scoring or flashy player, Jan
was able to play the position very successfully.
He currently sits fifth on the all-time scoring list.
Music suited Jan’s laid back personality perfectly.
“Mr. Cool” was a very talented drummer and guitar player who could be
found performing in numerous concerts and school productions.

Jan Pornpherm currently sits fifth on the all-time scoring list.
And even
though he rarely showed it, Jan was a fierce competitor who always gave
100%. His great sense of humor and easy going nature made him very
popular with the teachers and students at GIS.
Naz Neufeld came to GIS in 2007 from St.
Andrews and made an immediate impact at our school. Not only did Naz
participate in sports, she also involved herself in many dance and
theatrical performances and was a very talented artist.
Away from GIS, Naz is an aspiring model who won the
Elite Model Look Thailand Contest in 2008.

Naz Neufeld not only participated in sports, she also involved
herself in many dance and theatrical performances and was a very
talented artist.
Her ability to give 100% effort in everything she did
made Naz a very special person. Whether it was on the football field,
the basketball court or the running track, she was never satisfied with
being second best.
Naz was a natural leader who led by example and was
able to make the players around her better. It is very safe to say that
Naz Neufeld is the finest female athlete in the history of Garden
International School.
Naz is also an accomplished dancer who trains
extensively in ballet and jazz.

Naz Neufeld
She has not only used her experience to
perform at the school, but to choreograph many dance routines in both
Primary and Secondary.
Naz was very popular around the school and was
well-liked by the teachers and her fellow students.
It has been a great pleasure teaching and coaching
Naz during these past three years.
GIS would like to thank Stian (studying in
Manchester), Jan (off to Sweden) and Naz (off to Canada) for their
contributions to the school over the years and wish them the best of
luck in the future.
