Permanent solution needed for the plight of Rohingyas
Dear Editor;
The Rohingya is a group of Arakanese people in Myanmar. They are spread
mainly in Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Akyab, Rathedung and Kyauktaw townships
close to neighbouring Bangladesh.
From the 7th century merchants from Yemen, Arabia and other parts of the
Middle East began to settle in Arakan. After the British occupation of
Arakan in the 19th century, many Bengalese from the then British East Bengal
also started settling in Arakan.
There is a long history of anti-Indian and anti-Muslim sentiment and riots
in Myanmar from the time of British occupation of Arakan. The first major
such riot occurred in 1930 as a result of the irresponsible action of a
British firm of stevedores which had brought in Burmese workers to break the
strike of Indian workers. The Indians were compelled to end the strike. The
following day when the Burmese workers reported for work they were told by
the British firm that their service was no longer required. The Burmese
workers became angry and started the fight and Indians retaliated. In a
couple of days the riot spread to the whole country and thousands of
innocent lives were lost. Subsequent history is replete with anti-Indian and
anti-Muslim riots in the region which need a careful analysis from the
historical perspectives.
Amnesty International reports highlight the continued suffering of the
Rohingya people under Myanmar’s military rulers in the past decades. Their
freedom of movement is severely curtailed and most of them have been denied
Myanmar citizenship. They are subjected to extortion and arbitrary taxation,
land confiscation, forced labor, forced eviction, and restrictions on
marriage.
More than 200,000 Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh in 1978 following the Nagamin
operation of the Myanmar army. This military campaign targeted civilians and
resulted in widespread killings, rape and religious persecution of the
Rohingyas.
Another quarter of a million Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh in 1991-92. They
reported forced labour, executions, torture, and rape. Myanmar army forced
Rohingyas to unpaid work on infrastructure and strategic military and
economic projects under inhuman conditions.
Many thousand Rohingyas also fled to Thailand. There are claims that many of
them have been shipped and towed out to open sea by the Thai army and
police. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva confirmed that there were instances
in which Rohingya people were pushed out to the sea.
A permanent solution to the plight of Rohingya minority in Myanmar will
remain elusive as long as the undemocratic military rulers continue to deny
their citizenship.

Dear Editor,
I had to stop snickering before I replied to Pattaya Patty. Please do not
assume so much. I was not ‘’tooting my own horn’ to show off, it was merely
to add substance to my right to have a jibe. My contribution is from the
heart and not self-serving. I have put my wife’s brother through 5 years of
university and he will now become a teacher after his one year of service;
next sister through high school and getting married; next sister number #1
in class at a private girls’ school and will start university next May; and
my son is in 6th grade at Burapa Best. They all speak 3 languages.
In the comment about not getting something from my own society (America),
dead wrong! A good university education; Navy officer; commercial pilot;
business owner and author of three books... Of course the squeaky wheel
isn’t always oiled, but if even once, it would be good.
Your jabs at the US policies and certain administrations show a very weak
knowledge of what really goes on there. You must believe CNN and BBC and
their liberal spews. I did not across the board criticize Thailand, but I do
call things the way they are no matter where I am, and after 10 years here
and a speaking knowledge of Thai, I claim the right to do so. Tum Dii Die
Dii.

Leaked correspondence proves Global Warming is nothing but “Junk Science”
Editor:
The leaked email correspondence from the University of East Anglia, whose
Climatic Research Unit is a key element in the push toward blaming humankind
for the earth’s natural global and cooling cycles, only graphically revealed
what was what I have been saying about the Junk Science of “Global Warming”,
cycles, that the supposedly scientifically proven conclusions of global
warming science were a political fortress guarding a scientific house of
cards built on manipulated data and an aggressive campaign of silencing
critics and dissenters.
The Global Warming boom is big business for green companies and certain
liberal politicians who have jumped on their bandwagon, such as Al Gore who
went from a few million to a hundred million, and is likely to become a
billionaire if cap and trade becomes a reality.
But it is science, not simply because it is wrong, but because it is a case
of scientific conclusions being powered by political ideas, rather than the
other way around. Using the scientific method to form questions, test them
and emerge with true answers is only valid to the extent that the process
itself is pure.
Global Warming promoters have repeatedly accused dissenting climate research
scientists of being tainted by money from the oil industry. But if the
science of researchers who took money from the oil industry is tainted
science, then the science of those climate researchers who stand to
financially benefit from green industries and those who view it as a
political agenda first, must be at least as tainted.
What has been branded as East Anglia University’s Climategate is only a
small peek behind the stone walls of that elite global warming fraternity,
at the anger and tension, the secrets and the lies of those perpetuating the
fraud for the highest and lowest reasons. The lowest of course is the
hundreds of billions of dollars at stake and the highest is a quest to
reduce men from the lords of nature, to its humble servants.
Some writers to my letters on the Junk Science of “Climate Warming” have
branded me as not being knowledgeable about the Global Warming “FACTS” or
that I had my head in the clouds and could not see the problem. It is now
quite evident and proven, that those so called facts that were used to
promote the Global Warming crowd were based on lies and altered documents.
When these crooks and liars were caught, they tried to hide the evidence of
their lies by refusing to release the data and by destroying the proof that
in fact, their Science was nothing but “Junk Science”.
