Rotarian Praphan Thinnarong receives royal recognition for maintaining
good health and happiness

Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Khunplome joined Rotarians from 16 clubs in
the region in congratulating Praphan Thinnarong, Past President of the
Rotary Club of Pattaya for having been chosen by the Ministry of Public
Health as the most outstanding “model senior citizen” and thus winning a
Royal award.

Praphan 85, was honoured at the Rotary Club of Pattaya 2nd annual fellowship
dinner party at the Town & Town Hotel on November 30. Pattaya Mayor
Itthiphol Khunplome, current Rotary Club of Pattaya President Viwat
Sirichartchai, Past Rotary District 3340 Governor Pratheep S. Malhotra and
members from 16 Rotary clubs attended.
Praphan said he was selected by the Banglamung and Pattaya public health
commissions model senior citizens who have maintained good health and
contributed to the development of the Banglamung community. They represented
Chonburi in Ministry of Public Health’s “healthy and happy 80-year-old”
project, which has been developed to promote consciousness of good health
among senior citizens and honour those who have lived long and respectable
lives.
He was granted the HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s Shield on November
2 at Thai Army Club.
“It is estimated that in 2025 the elderly will comprise 20 percent of
Thailand’s population,” said Pinta Ruangrattanakorn of the Banglamung Public
Health Office. “It’s essential that the country has senior citizens in their
good heath. For that reason, the development of relevant services systems is
necessary, including the policy “build not repair,” which is a long-term
plan to build strong and independent elderly, who not only could take care
of themselves, but also can help fellow senior citizens.”
International Balloon
Fiesta soars Dec. 10-13
Pattaya’s 3rd annual International Balloon Fiesta is
currently talking place Dec. 10-13, flying higher and longer than ever before.

fire up in preparation for a night flight during last year’s event.
More than 30 hot-air balloons of many shapes, colors and sizes from around the
world are taking part in the Fiesta at Thamasart University’s Pattaya Center,
alongside Pattaya Siam Country Club, with the Chonburi Provincial
Administration, Sport Flying Association of Thailand and the Mongkol Channel all
taking part.
This year’s expo will feature the first balloon competition, as well as the
usual illuminated night flight plus movies from Saha Mongkol Films, which will
offer free screenings for the full four days. Food, drink, music and much more
is available throughout the festival which takes place daily from 6 a.m. to 10
p.m.

Lions Club members from 22 countries caucused, shopped and dined as the
association’s 48th Orient and Southeast Asia Lions Forum convened for two days
in Pattaya.

Meetings with more than 10,000 Lions from 22 counties roared to life at the
Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall at Jomtien Beach’s Royal Cliff Beach
Resort Nov. 19-21. Chonburi Gov. Senee Jittakasem and Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol
Kunplome welcomed guests during the opening ceremony presided over by OSEAL
Organizing Committee Chairman Somsakdi Lovisuth.
The convention was the usual mix of official business and fun, with committee
meetings, member caucuses and language-specific seminars interspersed with a
golf tournament, shopping bazaar and a “Taste of Thailand” food festival.
Somsakdi said that this meeting was a good opportunity for Thai Lions to repeat
their well-received showing at a 2008 International Lions meeting in Bangkok. It
also gave a welcome boost to the city with Lions estimated to have generated up
to 1.5 billion baht in revenue from hotels, restaurants and tour groups.
