Thai Sikhs came to the aid of the Garunyawet Home for the Disabled, presenting two wheelchairs worth about 7,000 baht in the name of Sikhism’s founder.
Amrik Singh Kalra, president of Pattaya’s Sikh Community, presented the wheelchairs to home director Sirilak Chai-ngam Nov. 2. He said they were given in honor of Guru Nanak Dev Ji., who established the religion in 1499.
Sirilak gave a warm welcome to the Sikh group, explaining the center takes care of disabled, homeless and infirm women. There are currently 410 patients in nine houses.
The director said the home relies on charity and still needs many daily supplies, including adult diapers, cleaning materials, rice and medicine. It’s also understaffed, with one caretaker overseeing 50 residents.
If you wish to make a donation, contact the Garunyawet Home for the Disabled at 038-241-741-2.

The ladies from the Pattaya International Ladies Club were in for a real treat at the Montien Hotel for their monthly luncheon in November. All sixty four of them enjoyed the sumptuous buffet provided by the hotel and as Pattaya had just enjoyed the festival of Loy Krathong the previous evening, the staff along with Alvi Sinthuvanik, Hospitality Chair, demonstrated some Thai customs and performed some traditional Thai dance. The ladies were then invited to join in and they formed a small procession around the ballroom.
