Swiss Marcel is too good once more

PSC golf from the Café Kronborg

Peter Blackburn
Monday, Sept. 7,
Pleasant Valley – 2-Man Scramble
It was decided to have a change from the usual Stableford format so 11 of us headed off to Pleasant Valley at 0820 from Café Kronborg to play a 2 Man Scramble & we arrived at the course 55 minutes later. As usual there were very few other golfers there and our first group teed off at around 0930.

‘The Admiral’ (left) with Marcel Wittwer.

The “odd man out” was Jonathon Pratt from the England so he played a game of stableford in a group of three. The weather was perfect and the course was in excellent conditions, in particular the greens which were true although at times a little hard. We finished our rounds in about four and a half hours which included a couple of decent drink stops.
Paul Avery and Ronnie Rattie took out first place from Takeshi Hakozaki and Bill Plath with Daryl Evans and Hugh O’Donnell finishing third. Jonathon Pratt scored 39 points off his eight handicap, a very creditable performance on a course he was playing for the first time.
1st Paul Avery & Ronnie Rattie, Net 61 (16)
2nd Takeshi Hakozaki & Bill Plath, Net 61.2 (8.8)
3rd Daryl Evans & Hugh O’Donnell, Net 61.4 (17.6)
Thursday, Sept. 10,
Greenwood C & B – Stableford
Once more just 11 golfers left Caf้ Kronborg right on time for the 55 minute journey to the challenging Greenwood course. As has been the case lately we just about had the course to ourselves and our first group teed off at 0940 in perfect but hot conditions.
We found the course splendidly prepared although the presence of sand on the greens on C nine, our first nine, made putting somewhat difficult but as usual they were very true. Three hours & 55 minutes was all it took for us to complete our round and that included two reasonable stops for drinks.
The man from Switzerland, Marcel Wittwer, was once again the winner from Colin Swann on a count back from Bill Plath. Aussie Paul Avery finished in fourth place.
I must mention the excellent news that “The Rooftop” is now back open. For those who are not familiar with this unique venue it is on top of the Markland Apartments on the corner of Soi 2 and Beach Road. It is on the 27th floor and one is able to enjoy probably the finest view of Pattaya Beach and is particularly spectacular after dark. There is a very good special for drinkers of beer and if anyone has been wondering why DB & The Admiral have been smiling this week, now you know.
1st Marcel Wittwer (14) 36pts
2nd Colin Swann (26)35pts
3rd Bill Plath (16) 35pts
4th Paul Avery (10) 34pts

Tricky Taylor triumphs

PSC golf with the Phoenix Tuesday Group

Mike Gerrard
Hello there you golfers! Last Tuesday saw us with 3 nice groups once again tackling the Mountain and Lakes course at the much improving conditions. Nearing, what some folks would like to think is going to be a high season, the groundsman is fast making the course the envy of all.
I say some folks want a high season. But when you can play millionaires golf on such nice courses, who wants to spoil it all with loads of foreigners creating slow play?
Joking apart, the weather was wonderful and the company even better.
After a long absence from our group we welcomed Paul Taylor back and he immediately showed us all how he has improved by being a member at Siam Country Club. Paul took the first prize today with a very steady 38 points, with our own dear John Bartley claiming second place.
Only two near pins were won today with Giorgio Baccioli and Graham Dietrich claiming those.
Back at Toy’s Music Bar, after the first thirst quencher (free in our group) we distributed the day’s awards accordingly. With only two near pins won it meant that we had 3 lucky draw cards to pull out and theses were duly awarded to Mike Gerrard, Sergio Volpi and Ken Akester, leaving poor old Stuart Gordon and Dennis Edmunds the only persons not to receive anything.
Never mind, I am sure Stuart will get his revenge next week. Sadly Dennis will not able to do so due to him going back to dear old ‘Blighty’ to help prop up the pension funds for us lazy old buggers here.
In addition to the Tuesday golf at Phoenix we have now started an additional day on friday’s at Green Valley Golf Club. It’s much the same format with Graham Dietrich organising the course facilities and tee times and myself helping with the players bookings and presentation at the golf club after the game.
This week dear John Bartley was one stroke behind me going down the 18th. We both put our second shot into the greenside bunker and I thought O.K. a bogey will possibly be enough to win. Think again McDuff! Dear John holed out from the bunker for a birdie and my bogey was not good enough to win the day. Well done John. However I did get second!
If you are not a member of Green Valley Golf Club then, as long as you are a member of the Pattaya Sports Club you can enjoy a green fee of 550 baht by purchasing a special voucher from myself. This rate is afforded to Pattaya Sports Club Members only. If you are not a member of the PSC you are still welcome to join us but you will have to be signed in by Graham as a member’s guest at 1,000 baht green fee.
Note: If anyone wishes to join either or both groups, please call me on 087 091 7565. At this time of the year we do need to know before hand who is and who is not coming to play. Pretty soon tee times will be difficult to obtain.
Best wishes to you all and swing straight!

Anderson strikes as ‘Dolphins’ hold league leaders

Pattaya United FC.

PM Reporters
Any thoughts that high flying Muang Thong United may have had of securing an easy three points at Pattaya United last Sunday were brought crashing back down to earth at the Nongprue Stadium when a fired up Dolphins team came out flying from the kick-off and looked like taking the game away from the visitors in an opening 20 minute blitz.
A large and colourful contingent of Muang Thong supporters had made the trip down to the Eastern Seaboard hoping to see their team consolidate their lead at the top of the Premier League standings; this following their nearest rival Chonburi FC’s 2-0 win the previous day against Samut Songkram.

Muang Thong United FC.
The atmosphere was certainly buzzing at start time and the home fans were almost treated to a Pattaya goal in the first minute when Amorn Thammanarm cut in from the right wing to leave two defenders in his wake, but with the goal seemingly at his mercy he fired a tame shot against the legs of Kawin in the Muang Thong goal.
The Dolphins fans didn’t have to wait too much longer though to see their team take the lead. Amorn was creating all kinds of havoc on the right wing for Pattaya but it was from the opposite flank that the opening goal was created in the 9th minute: Willian Mendonca received the ball out wide on the left and whipped in a low cross which the Muang Thong defence failed to deal with and Mendonca’s Brazilian compatriot Anderson was lurking to stab the ball past Kawin and give Pattaya a deserved lead.
The Bangkok team had barely got out of first gear at this stage and they were lucky not to fall further behind when Pattaya’s Amorn volleyed over the bar when it seemed that all he had to do was get his head on the ball to score.
The visitors were not helped when star player Teerathep received a knock early on and limped through most of the remainder of the half. Gradually the league leaders started to work their way back into the match however, and just before half time they had a glorious chance to equalize when unmarked Ivory Coast striker Yaya put the ball wide from just 5 yards out.
As the second half got underway it seemed that Pattaya had left all their attacking intentions in the half time dressing room as they sat back and spent most of the first 20 minutes of the second period camped in their own half of the pitch. This was all the invitation their opponents needed and Muang Thong began to look increasingly dangerous as the game wore on, with the speedy Yaya in particular looking a real threat.
On the hour mark a through ball was cleverly headed on by Teerathep who rounded Narit in the Pattaya goal and slotted the ball into the empty net. The visitors celebrations were short lived however as the linesman had spotted an offside in the build up to the goal. This should have served as a wake up call to Pattaya but they failed to pay heed to it and soon after Dagno Siaka found himself in acres of space on the edge of the Dolphins’ area and he was able to turn and fire a low right footed shot past Narit to square things up.
Dolphin’s coach Jadet decided that changes were needed and he introduced Thanabut in place of Wongdee after 65 minutes. This substitution certainly galvanized Pattaya and as the clock ran down they created the best chance of the half when Anderson was put clean through but he dallied too long on the ball and his shot was blocked for a corner.
No further clear cut chances were created by either team and as the final whistle sounded it seemed that both teams were happy to accept a point from what was a highly competitive encounter. Pattaya will certainly draw heart from their spirited performance against the league’s most in-form team and will take that confidence into their next Premier League fixture, away against PEA FC on Sunday, Sept 20 in Bangkok. Kick-off is at 5 p.m.

Golfing with a Mission

Kylie Grimmer
Golf is fun. Golf is a sport. But have you considered golf can help those with disabilities, discrimination and political intimidation, while playing one of Pattaya’s best golf courses?
A Pattaya based women’s group, “Women With a Mission” has decided that golf can help, and they have organised a golf tournament at Pattana Golf Club to raise money for the projects they support in the Pattaya area along with their projects on the Thai/Burmese Border.
The day at Pattana will include challenge holes for those serious about their golf, purchasing of Mulligans for those less practiced, lots of prizes, a buffet and dancing afterwards, if you feel so inclined.
Non golfers are welcome to join for drinks and dinner from 6 p.m. Cost for the day is B8,000 for a team of four or B2,000 per individual player. Carts not included.
Monies raised will contribute towards a pilot project in Pattaya to set up small business enterprises for families supporting handicapped members and similar projects for schools along the Thai/Burmese border.
You and your golf buddies, male or female, can have a great day out at one of Pattaya’s greatest courses at great low rates. October 2nd is the date. All you have to do is register and get yourself there. We will do the rest!
Golfing, drinking, eating, dancing, prizes and a great day out are all part of the fun. And remember, golf is fun and what this golf game can contribute is even greater.

Gandley top scores at Emerald

PSC Soi Kanoi Golf Group

Neil Duncan
Tuesday, Sept. 8, Pattana A & C
(Yellow tees) - Stableford
We were greeted by a very rain sodden course making the decision to play from the yellow tees well popular with the compact field. Although there was an infestation of flies on the course, gladly these mainly confined their nasty attentions to our golf bags and not to ourselves.

Thursday’s top two (left to right): David Johnson and Rob Gandley

May Mitchell had a good day, returning the best score of 39 points and triggering a handicap cut to 22 exact whilst also picking up two near-pin dividends. Dennis Jaycock was runner-up with 38 points with third spot being filled by Mike King on 36 points who also sunk the longest first putt on the eighteenth green and had a near pin dividend besides.
Thursday, Sept. 10, The Emerald (White tees) - Stableford
Having not visited Emerald for some time it was good to find the venue unchanged and in good shape. After Pattana on Tuesday it was a welcome change to have a little run on the ball.
In the B division (22 and above) David Johnson romped home with a staggering 29 points with Bev Ewens, Dennis Kannar and Roy Pimblett coming 2nd, 3rd and 4th with 28, 27/16 and 27/12 points respectively.
In the A division (21 and below) the scoring was significantly better with Rob Gandley taking top spot after carding 39 points and receiving a manual handicap cut to 16 along with his prize. John Khan, Willy Nachbur and Brendon Dougal were 2nd, 3rd and 4th with 35, 33 and 32 points respectively.
Brendon Dougal, Willy Nachbur, John Khan and Dennis Kannar won near-pin bonuses whilst Jim Fortune sunk the longest first putt on the 18th green. The overall average score for the day was 28.5 points.
Note: Any golfers seeking to play with our group that wish to know about the group’s format please phone Neil on 089 511 0575.

Steven ‘steals’ it at Green Valley

PSC golf from The Golf Club

Bob Newell
Before I give you the latest results let me introduce myself and give you the latest news from The Golf Club. My name is Bob Newell, formerly of Lewiinskis, and now, since the beginning of September, I have taken over the running of the golf from John Emmerson.
John’s contribution and work have been absolutely first rate since The Golf Club’s inception 2 years ago and he will be a hard act for anybody to follow. Thankfully, however, we have not entirely lost John’s services and input. Since his health problem earlier in the year he has decided to take a less active role but will continue to run his Tuesday and Thursday golf days at Siam for the benefit of our many Siam members. Of course other locals and visitors alike can still sign up to play those days.
Alongside this there will be occasional special golf events that he will organize and co-ordinate as they arise. I speak for everyone in thanking him for his efforts in the past and wish him well and good health for the future.
For my part, I will try to promote our other golf days, which are Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday and I will be making some small changes to hopefully help this along. For instance, these days will have slightly later tee-times than usually played here and we will be playing stableford competitions with one monthly medal. I will also introduce other initiatives as I see them.
To cater for the many people who are Green Valley members we will be making that venue our regular Monday fixture and I am, at present, trying to get a regular Saturday fixture there too. They currently have a number of competitions booked in for the up-coming Saturdays, through to the end of October, but I am hopeful of securing our booking from November onwards. As for the other days, Wednesday and Friday, we will alternate with other local courses and try to give good value golf days for everyone.
I am well aware, particularly in these current times, that it may take a while to establish these days but those of you who know me know that I will give it my best shot to bring you the golf we all deserve. My stance, as always, is to be fair and approachable and give everyone an enjoyable days golf followed by a little apre-golf! A few beers and a bite to eat back at the bar with the compulsory Mickey-taking thrown in at presentation!
I look forward to meeting and making new friends as well as welcoming all my old friends to come and have a game. Who knows? I might even give you a chance to beat me!
Cheers and good golfing, Bob!
Monday, Sept. 7, Green Valley - Stableford
1st Steven Steele (19) 40pts
2nd John Emmerson (11) 39pts
3rd Grant Cadell (17) 37pts
4th Bob Newell (6) 36pts
With our Green Valley Monday fixture already becoming established, I’m confident that this will only grow and become even more popular in the coming months. As usual this venue seldom disappoints and always gives excellent value.
Today the five groups of players were treated to a very pleasant and cooling bit of drizzle at the start of the round, however this didn’t last and we were all soon mopping our brows as the sun dried out the ground, creating an almost sauna-like affect. This did not affect the golf though and across the board some very respectable scores were returned.
Steven ‘cold’ Steele and John ‘the cigar’ Emmerson battled it out for the top spot, with Steven pipping John by one point to take the honors with an excellent 40 points. Grant Cadell’s 37 points was good enough for third spot, holding off the battle of the 6-handicappers Bob ‘seamless’ Newell and Jeff Cordiero on 36; Bob nicking the count back by one despite a bogie, bogie finish.
At the other end of the scale a very relieved Mark Watkin was finally rid of the title nobody wants; The Lowest Points Ever Scored At The Golf Club. The name of the new title holder will be kept secret for now though, he is a new member and new to golf and fair play to him, he took the wise-cracks in the spirit they were intended. Get ready, Richard, you’ll be getting a new pupil shortly!
Wednesday, Sept. 9, Greenwood - Stableford
1st Larry Bland (14) 32pts
2nd Bob Newell (6) 29pts
As we try to develop and pursue these new golf days only a small field made the trip to Greenwood.
With the normally impeccable course way below its normal condition the scores were very poor. The ‘C’ nines greens had been cored and sanded, which is quite understandable, after all the work has to be done but the ‘B’ nine, in my opinion, was just not good enough with bare, muddy lies and sparse, wiry grass the order of the day.
There was good news however, which was that we welcomed back in town the irrepressible Mark ‘happy shoes’ Wood. The bad news is, though, I’m afraid his singing voice hasn’t improved! But what about the golf? Larry Bland triumphed as the best of a bad bunch with Seamless a distant second. That’s about all that can be said about it.

Evans back in the winning groove

Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, Sept. 7, Green Valley – Stableford
There were seven groups out today and with an amazing five rollovers in division 1 in the ‘2’s it was set for a very interesting day indeed.
Every time we play here we leave a perfect blue sky on the coast and as we approach the clouds are always threatening in the background with a high expectancy of rain. There were a few spots for the first three four-balls out but that soon dispersed and a trouble free round was enjoyed by all.
Returning from Holland after three months, William Chang won division 2 with 34 points. Peter Grant, playing his last week of golf before his return to the Falkland Island, took second place one point behind and Joe Kubons’s 32 was good enough for third place.
There were higher scores in division 1 with Saranya Riley, who now plays off the white tees, winning with 39 points. Rick Schramm took second place with 38 and in third position was the Sheffield lad Andy Mills with 33.
Amazingly there are three birdies on the 12th hole and one on the ninth in division 1 so a shared pot went to Keith Hector, Ya Riley, Rick Schramm and ‘Count back’ Burnie. Bryan Rought also got a ‘2’ on the 12th to take the division 2 purse on his own.
Near Pins went to (Div1) Phil Knight, Andy Mills and Rick Schramm (2); and (Div 2) Evan Millar and Bryan Rought (2).
Wednesday, Sept. 9, The Emerald – Stableford
There was a field of 27 out today and no single handicap players at all, so the cut was made at 11-22 in division 1 and 23 plus for division 2.
As always we arrived 30 minutes early and were asked to tee off straight away. There were some high scores in division 1, with Cully Monks finishing third with 35 points, ‘Count back’ Burnie was three points ahead in second place, and Bryan Rought took the top podium position with 41 points.
In his first placing for many months, Martin Anderton won division 2 with 34 points, while Heikki Tehro beat his companion Jouni Metsanen on a 18/15 back nine count back for second after they both tied on 32 points.
Heikki also birdied the 13th to take the only ‘2’s prize in division 2 while a rollover in division 1 ensued to Great Lakes the following Monday.
It is always nice to see eight different names winning the nearest the pin prizes: In Div 1 it was Ben Findon, Mam Morel, Cully Monks and Tom Sathrum, and in Div 2, Martin Anderton, William Chang, Juha Kangas and Richard Kings.
Friday, Sept. 11, Eastern Star – Stableford
We are hosting the IPGC monthly medal here on October 7 and with all the course adjustments and refurbishments over the past four months this hopefully will please everybody.
Improving with every game, the in form Saranya Riley scored 38 points today to win division 1 by four points from Tom Sathrum into second place. Her other half finished third with 33 points, so as the saying goes, keep it in the family.
After some abysmal golf over the past six months Glyn Evans recorded his highest score for some considerable time with 39 points to win the second division. After the marriage last week, Mrs. Foster was not pleased to be told she was in second place with 35 and Barry Rawlinson took third, just one point behind.
Juha and Saranya both got ‘2’s on the third hole to share the division 1 collection and five rollovers passed over to Eastern Star the next Friday in division 2.
Bon voyage to Peter Grant who returned to the Falkland isles and also to Andy Oz on his departure Down Under. See you both in the new year.

Two caddies/ Broken clubs

Golf from the Travellers Rest

Barry Hooper
As a reporter you are always looking for a story to headline your report. Usually it is someone who has excelled during the week. Well this week is a little different. Unlike some golf reporters I am not always able to go out with all the groups during the week, but I do listen to what is being discussed by our participants back in the bar and I must say I was very surprised, along with many others, to hear that one player amongst our groups actually on many occasions takes out two caddies.

Saturday winners: Michael Moreton, Martin Zimmermann and Jon Lay (with his broken club).

Why you might ask? The explanation offered was that one carried his bag and the other his umbrella to keep off the sun. Only in Thailand me thinks, but maybe I am wrong?
The other story is not that unusual it seems after investigation. But one of the TRGG group on Saturday at Green Valley managed to break his five-iron whilst attempting to extricate his ball from close to a tree. The evidence can be seen in this week’s picture. He advised me that the shaft had already been weakened from a previous occasion but I think a little adrenalin was flowing after finding the location of his ball and might have been brought into the equation.
Monday, Sept. 7, Plutaluang - Stableford
1st Jon Lay (9) 36pts
2nd Ted Senior (13) 34pts
3rd Ray Allison (11) 31pts
On Monday a small group travelled out to Plutaluang and I have it advised that the course was in good shape, but being low season some held over participation for the next day’s outing to Emerald.
This is a course that you either like or loath. John Lay obviously found it to his liking and came home with thirty-six points to take first place, followed in by Ted Senior at thirty-four and Ray Allison at thirty-one. Two ‘2’s were recorded from Ray and Yoshi Ebina (a new name to me).
Tuesday, Sept. 8, Emerald - Stableford
Div 1
1st Ted Senior (13) 41pts
2nd Frank Kelly (12) 40pts
3rd Mod Chaviraksa (11) 32pts
4th Fergus Brennan (8) 31pts
Div 2
1st Yoshi Ebina (20) 37pts
2nd Alun Webber (24) 35pts
3rd Garry Hall (21) 35pts
4th Seamus O’Farrell (36) 32pts
Tuesday and off to Emerald we went. We have not been there in some time, mainly because of cost it seems, but we had an excellent turnout on the day so two divisions.
This course is one that you really have to manage well as it can be tight and the par three’s are very testing. But this failed to phase Ted Senior it seems in division one. He came home with forty-one points, no mean achievement on this course, to win and he was followed in by Frank Kelly at forty. Eight points back in third was Mod Chaviraksa.
The second Division went to Yoshi Ebina with thirty-seven points, second was Alun Webber at thirty-five with Garry Hall on the same score but beaten on count-back into third.
Two ‘2’s scored, both at the fifteenth from Frank Kelly and (Mr. ‘2’ himself) Ted Senior.
Thursday, Sept. 10, Phoenix (Mountain & Lakes) - Stableford
1st Ito Akitoshi (8) 40pts
2nd David Gray (31) 39pts
3rd Alun Webber (24) 36pts
4th Garry Hall (21) 35pts
Yes another visit to our regular Thursday venue of Phoenix (Mountain and Lake again). The course was excellent as always and scoring very good; though we did have a low turnout.
Ito Akitoshi, one of regular players but not a person I see at the top of the list that often, decided this was going to be his day and he came home with forty points for the win, just taking it by the one over David Gray at thirty-nine. Alun Webber was a further three back at thirty-six in third, beating Garry Hall by one, this time back at thirty-five.
There were no ‘2’s so the traditional bell ring back at the bar.
Saturday, Sept. 12, Green Valley – Stableford
1st Martin Zimmerman (17) 39pts
2nd Jon Lay (9) 37pts
3rd Michael Moreton (25) 37pts
4th Tewin Lamthong (13) 36pts
5th Mod Chaviraksa (11) 34pts
Green Valley played a little easier on the day than last week although I understand that some pin placements on the top tiers of the greens made things tricky at times. I had the opportunity to personally play this week and I was very impressed with the course. Rain threatened but did not aspire to anything and at times there was a refreshing light breeze. It was very enjoyable. The numbers were medium so only one division.
Poopay, who had a great win last week at the same venue, could only manage fourth this week at thirty-six points. One up on her was the Doc himself Michael Moreton at thirty-seven but loosing out on the count back to Jon Lay (21 to19) who took second. But the winner was Martin Zimmerman, who not been out with us for some time, with his thirty-nine points. Good win.
Two ‘2’’s both came at the ninth from Roger Wilkinson and Martin Zimmerman.
Note: If you want any further information about the golf outings played by the TRGG please contact Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or call in to the Travellers Rest in Soi LK Metro.

‘Millionaires golf’ at Greenwood

PSC golf from Tropical Bert’s

Derek Brook
Tuesday, Sept. 8, Greenwood – Stableford
This is always a fine day out, especially if you do not have to drive. On this day I was lucky enough to be taken there by that ‘Careful’ driver Mr. Hamstad and it was as good as being chauffeur driven. Except for the fact that on the way back he would insist on talking to the other people in the car as I tried to get some sleep. Some people have no manners.
Getting back to the golf, on this day the course was practically empty and we were put onto the B & C Nines. The B Nine was fine but they had sanded the C Nine and it was hard work on the greens. Still, this is millionaires’ golf at a beggar’s rate.
The heavy wind caused the scores to be low as did the fact that all the tee markers were where they were supposed to be for a change. The winner on the day was Perry McNeely with 36 points on count back from Dick Warberg in second while in third place was Mashi Kanata on 34 points. T.T.F.N.
Near Pins: Perry McNeely (2), Dick Warberg

Tuesday’s winners Perry, Dick and Mashi with two young ladies back at Bert’s.

Rayong followed by more Rayong

PSC golf from Mulligans Lakeside

Tuesday, Sept. 8, Green Valley - Stableford
Tuesday saw us travel out the 36 to Rayong Green Valley, where clear skies, a light breeze and a course in good condition awaited us. For some reason there seemed to be some slow players somewhere ahead of us, backing the field up, but as it was a nice day, we took the time to “smell the roses” as we waited on our shots.

Ray and John.
Derek, who seems to be coming to terms with Thailand conditions, showed marked improvement from the last few weeks and edged Ken, who is enduring somewhat of a form slump recently.
Regulars, Ray and John are on tourist guide duties this week and will be back in the swing next week, as other players return.
Thursday, Sept. 10, Rayong Country Club
Thursday this week and again out along Highway 36, but this time turn left at the lights and down to Rayong Country Club, previously known as Great Lakes. The course is currently undergoing a rejuvenation/refurbishment, and while a little work still needs to be done, it has always been a course of great promise.
Currently the greens on the front 9 are being cored, which makes for some “interesting” putts, but they are the same for everybody, you know, swings & roundabouts.
As I had mentioned from Tuesday’s round, Derek is coming to terms with golf in Thailand, and so it was to be today that he picked up his first win, with a creditable 33 points off his 29 h/c. He just edged the always consistent (off 14) Graham Hiskett on the back 9, (18 to 15), aahhh that last putt, hey Graham!
The technical awards were picked up by new boy (to Mulligans Lakeside) Jim Bell. He won two and the others were jackpotted, so he got them all, effectively. Well done Jim!
Note: Mulligans Lakeside plays golf on Tuesday & Thursday, tee off is generally 10.00 a.m., with the group leaving for the course around 8.45. For those golfers who choose to go straight to the course, no dramas, just call Jeff on 089 094 1841, let him know you will be joining the group and we will see you there.
We try and avail ourselves of the PSC negotiated vouchers (where we pass on all the savings) or use the current club Low Season Sports days, ensuring reasonable value priced golf for all. We do not take “administration fees” from the prize pool, so you are playing for ALL your money, not just 80% or less.
Hope to see you there, Cheers & Good Golfing!

The United Colours of Walter “Poulter”

Near Pins: No2 Ian Halfpenny, No9 Vic Hestor, No12 Gareth Gill, No16 Vic Hestor
A return to our usual Lewiinski’s Sunday spot at Green Valley was welcomed by all, and a surprise indeed awaited all at the first tee. You would have been forgiven if you had thought the circus had come to town.

Sunday’s Green Valley winners (left to right): Walter Baechli, Jum Karagit and Gareth Gill.

Waiting to tee off was our old friend ‘The multi-coloured’ Walter “Poulter” Baechli, resplendent in bright orange shirt, pink shorts and bright green knee length socks. (Perhaps the united colors of Benetton, or ‘Save the Whale’ or just Ian Poulter are sponsoring him). Whatever it certainly worked as Walter dazzled the field, amassing 42 points for man of the match honors, a very impressive display as Walter was the only competitor to better par on the day. Eddie ‘The Eagle’ certainly had his wings clipped as he took second place seven shots adrift.
Big hitting Gareth ‘Geordie’ Gill tried hard to brighten up A-Flight with a solid even par round. Bob ‘The Welsh Wizard’ Dibben pushed Gareth hard, coming up one shot short for second spot.
The Red Flight was won by the ever-present Jum Karagit with 34 points and Kathy Doody filled the flight a shot off the pace.
Tricky Vic Hestor, Lou Zigzag, and the glamorous duo of Jum and Kathy split the ‘2’s pot.
Tuesday, Sept. 8, Laem Chabang - Stableford

1st Jim Bracket (7) 40pts
2nd Mark Wood (7) 38pts

A fair contingent of Lewiinski’s golfers took full advantage of the low season green fee to play the immaculately presented Laem Chabang C and A Nines.
The old Vet Himself led the guys home with a super round of 40 points; this included 33 gross on the back nine. Recently returned Mark ‘Elvis’ Wood wasted no time in starting where he left of posting an impressive 38 pts for second.
The ‘Right Honorable’ Jorn Finnerup won B Flight at a canter with an even par round. Jim Bell filled the flight with a 34 point return.
Gareth Geordie Gill, Kevin Sullivan and ‘Elvis’ Wood shared the ‘2’s pot.
Wednesday, Sept. 9, Bangpra – Stableford
A Flight
1St Jimmy Day (14) 34pts
2nd Mike Shrosbree (13) 33pts
B Flight
1stBill Broschart (17) 39pts
2nd Geoff Kubas (22) 34pts
American Bill Broschart showed all his mettle, as he alone broke par on the Greenwood B and C Nines. Bill’s 39 points was good for both B Flight and man of the match honors.
Geoff Kubas’ 34 points got the count back verdict over George ‘One Ball’ Jackson (19/18). That’s the thanks you get for giving Geoff singing lessons across the road.
Up in A-Flight’ Co Wicklow’s male fashion model Jimmy Day and his extra long shorts carded 34 points to top the podium. Hey hold on that’s not fair - Old ‘One ball’ had 34 points! Mike “The man of leisure’ Shrosbree rounded out the flight a shot adrift.
No ‘2’s were recorded, so with casual golf Friday plus the big PSC tournament it’s rollover to next Tuesday.
Note: Lewiinski’s is situated on Pattaya Land Soi 1, Beach Road Soi 13/3 near to Walking Street. Anyone wishing to play with us just pop in, and add your name to the list or call Colin on 089 826 0764. Transport is provided.

Herbie strikes again

PSC golf from The Three Sisters Bar

This past Tuesday being the second week for our 7 a.m. tee off times seems to have helped our turnout.

Tuesday winner Herbie Ishinaga (left) with runner-up Bill Thompson.

Sprinkles on the way to the Pattaya Country Club stopped right at tee time and the course was in very good conditions as the scores were up from last week. The fairways were a bit damp slowing the roll but dried out fairly quickly. The sun was nice enough but the flies were really bothersome. Next week the spray comes out.
Back at Caddy Shack II the cards were tallied and Herbie Ishinaga was sitting on a pretty tough 41 and looked a cinch to win. Bill Thompson also came in with a 41 and the counting began. Both had 20 points on the count-back and on the last 6 count back Herbie passed Bill with a 15 to Bill’s 14. Herbie also furnished snacks and some very good pork roast sandwich makings. Considerable refreshment was available to slack the thirsts.”

Young triumphs with 40-point return at Burapha

PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Joey’s column
Monday, Sept. 7, Burapha – Stableford
After a couple of weeks on the C & D nines, the 25 Outbackers playing today were switched back to the Augusta & Belfry course, as usual from the blues. The A & B nines had been recently sanded but the greens were in excellent condition, with the ball rolling and holding well (if you could hit ‘em).

Bruce Milner (left), Bruce McAdam (right) and Mike O’Brien (centre) bagged the only ‘2’s at Rayong Country Club.

Paul Young had a great day out, scoring a brilliant 40 points to win Div A, which, as Paul is handicapped under the PSC Congu system earned him a handicap cut of 1.8 (down to 10.6) against a CSS of nearly 76. In second place was Tony McDonough, here on holiday, and a good friend of Capt’ Bob’s, but he will find himself playing off 12 for the rest of this trip with his fine 38 points.
Welcome back to Bernie Stafford (3rd Div A) and Chris Davisson, who is still finding his golfing form since returning from the UK.
Div B was won by another Aussie boy, Barry McIntosh with a solid 36 points in front of Ivan Plunkett (34pts) and a couple of Outback regulars, Bruce McAdam and Frank O’Neill, both with 33.
There were four ‘2’s from Capt’ Bob, Paul Young, Paul Bourke & Tony McDonough.

4th Paul Bourke (10) 31pts
Div B (14+)

4th Frank O’Neill (16) 33pts
Tuesday, September 8, Pattaya C.C. - Stableford
There were 13 (lucky for some)! Outbackers who played in today’s competition. They found the course is a good condition with work being carried out in many places by some of the caddies who did not ‘get a bag’ today. The pin position on the par 3 - fifth was interesting for most!
We welcomed Barry McIntosh, playing his first Tuesday game with us and another welcome for the returning (briefly) Mark and Ben Kembrey. It was a cool day making it comfortable for both riders and walkers.
When organizer for the day ‘Chad’ aka Barry Chadbourn came to check the scores it was good to see that ‘man about town’ Alan Pearce (21) was in top spot with 39 points as he has not be in the frame for a while. That man again! ‘Our Arthur’ - Arthur Bailey (18) was second with a fine 37 points, beating PCC caddy, Noy (23) on count back.
There were three ‘2’s today from Ian Covill, Barry Chadbourn, and Frank O’Neill.
The Outback Golf bar play at Pattaya Country Club every Tuesday with a tee time of 09.30. The prize presentation and lucky draw take place at the bar just an hour after the last group come in.

Wednesday, September 9,Bangpra -Stableford
Eighteen Outbackers arrived at this wonderful little course to find preparations in full swing for the upcoming B-ing Championship, part of the Asian PGA tour, to be hosted here next week.
It’s not a long course from the white tees but it’s a bit of a monster from the blacks, particularly the third with the tee box tucked back in the trees just a short walk from the second green, quite probably unnoticed by many. This is especially so to a mere amateur requiring one’s ‘Sunday best’ drive, just to get over the water, followed by an equally good three wood and still not reach the green.
Twelve regular Outbackers will be able to experience how the pros do it first hand, in next week’s pro-am as the Outback Golf Bar is delighted to have been invited to participate, with four teams entered.
Capt’ Bob, who got his numbers wrong and missed out on playing here as a warm up for next Tuesday, ended up playing to handicap in a friendly at St. Andrews; a feat that would have been easily enough to beat the remainder of Outbacker field here today.
Playing from the whites (not the tips), three were tied at the top on 33 points, requiring the scrutiny of General Jack and resulting in Brian Elsegood getting the nod with 17 points on the back nine over Paul Avery & Jum, both with 15, but Paul with a better last six.
Finally, welcome to Mike Pledger, playing with the Outback for the first time; sorry you ended up in a five ball!
There was a ‘jackpot 2’ scooped by Stuart Rifkin.
1st Brian Elsegood (15) 33pts
2nd Paul Avery (10) 33pts
3rd Jum Karagit (22) 33pts
4th Bruce Milner (11) 32pts
5th Sugar Ray Handford (19) 32pts
Thursday, Sept. 10, Green Valley - Stableford
Just a small group (4) of three regular Outbackers and Tony McDonough (one of the Aussie visitors) played here today; and Tony started and remained the odd one out. The other three, headed by Kathy, all played off a handicap of 19 and all scored 32 points.
There were no ‘2’s.
1st Kathy Doody (19) 32pts
2nd Barry Chadbourn (19) 32pts
Friday, Sept. 11, Rayong C.C. - Stableford
With no Laem Chabang available this week it was a single venue day for the 34 Outbackers going to the up and coming Rayong Country Club. It is a quick journey from the Outback and all were there well before the tee time. Booking was efficient and we were on our way.
As we know, this course is going through an improvement program and there was much work in evidence around the course. Some of the greens had been recently hollow tined – but not sanded – making putting a lottery but it did not affect those in the frame in all three divisions as eight out of the nine beat their handicap and the other equalled his.
In the premier division all three players played off a handicap of 11 and it was Paul Greenaway who was in top spot with 40 points, second place went to Mark Reid on 38 and Bruce Milner third with 37.
In the B division it was a count back to decide first and second with both Jeff Calrow (15) and Mike O’Brien (19) on 39 points; resulting in Jeff just pipping Mike for first place and leaving Mike somewhat ruing his wipe-wipe finish after amassing a brilliant 24 points on the front nine. Third went to the only lady in the field today ‘our Kath’, Kathy Doody (19) with 38.
It was a United Nations trio in C flight as the leading three were an Irishman, an Aussie and a Scotsman. First place went to the Irish leprechaun - Ivan Plunkett (20) with the equalizing best score of the day of 40 points. Second place went to the ‘other Bruce’, Bruce McAdam (21) with 39 and third spot to our local Scottish resident, Graham Ramsay (20) with 36.
At the presentation Capt’ Bob announced the following immediate handicap revisions: Paul Greenaway11.2 to 10.4; Jeff Calrow 14.9 to 14.0; Mike O’Brien 18.7 to 17.8; Ivan Plunkett 19.7 to 18.5 and Bruce McAdam 20.5 to 19.6.
Div A (0–14)
1st Paul Greenaway (11) 40pts
2nd Mark Reid (11) 38pts
3rd Bruce Milner (11) 37pts
Div B (15-19)
1st Jeff Calrow (15) 39pts
2nd Mike O’Brien (19) 39pts
3rd Kathy Doody (19) 38pts
Div C (20+)
1st Ivan Plunkett (20) 40pts
2nd Bruce McAdam (21) 39pts
3rd Graham Ramsay (20) 36pts

‘Pin Eye’ comes up short

IPGC golf from The Haven

Monday, September 7, Khao Kheow – Stableford
1st Russell Finch 39pts
2nd Masanori Takano 34pts
3rd Russell Exley 34pts
4th Shuichi Kodaka 33pts
5th Alan Hanlon 32pts
6th Sid Ottaway 32pts
Khao Kheow is one of the courses in the area that repays good golf shots with good scores and bad ones with the basis for a tear up, and usually the winning score is to be found around par.
Russell Finch, locally know as Pin Eye in reference to his claim that even though he lies anywhere from between 50 and 100 yards from the hole, he will be pin high, is at last beginning to make some sense of the reams of information about his swing from seemingly an endless supply of go-go dancers, teachers, doctors, friends and even some who have only met him the one time, as his handicap begins to approach the figure that he thinks it should be. This day was another step along that almost endless road as he took the rest of the field to task, winning by a margin of five from his nearest competitors. These were Masanori Takano and Russell Exley with Masanori getting the nod after a better count back of 13 against Russell’s 12 over the back six after they had halved at 18 over nine.
Shuichi Kodaka took fourth place on his own a further shot back with Alan Hanlon, just making a mention in his last game for a while, winning the count back with Sid Ottaway by virtue of a better 19 to 18.
There were no 2’s in the second division but Russell Exley and Tony Barritt shared the first division pool.
Before presenting the prizes The Doc welcomed back Philippe Berra, John Harris and Alec Woods and also had
a farewell for Alan Hanlon.
Wednesday, September 9, Pattana – Stableford
1st Russell Finch 35pts
2nd Masanori Takano 34pts
3rd Paul Hartley 33pts
4th Roar Berger 32pts
5th Robert Hanson 32pts
Playing the A and B courses with their par of 73 off the white tees at nearly 6750 yards is always a bit of a challenge. The CSS usually goes out to at least 74 and sometimes as much as 76 and this day was in the same mould as usual with the standard scratch moving to 74 as only two players played within the parameters set by the CONGU system of two over handicap.
Russell Finch recorded his second win of the week, to set up the possibility of equaling the record of three individual wins in a week, with a solid but unspectacular thirty five points to edge in ahead of Masanori Takano, who also returned his second runner up placing of the week, a shot behind.
Paul Hartley, still running in Christmas supplies in his spare time for the famous Haven mince pies, stayed around long enough to pick up third place, one more shot back.
Roar Berger, having spent most of his spare time and available cash on several hours of lessons and practice, not necessarily in that order, started on the long road of repayment with fourth place with a better count back of 20 against Robert Hanson who could only garner 15 after a steady start to the round.
Once again there were no 2’s in the second division and once again Tony Barritt slipped one in the first division to share the pot with Rick Schramm and Alan Griffiths.
Back at The Haven there were welcomes for new members Peter Krase and John Morrissey and a welcome back for Norman Isherwood.
Friday, September 11, Bangpra - Stableford
1st Sid Ottaway 32pts
2nd Masanori Takano 31pts
3rd Russell Finch 31pts
4th Roar Berger 30pts
5th Max Tolbert 30pts
Although the greens were nowhere near as fearsome as in past years, the general condition of the course was excellent as the club was due to host a large Thailand PGA event a few days following our competition and the fairways were in mint condition with the rough cut to around four inches but very thick. This meant that any wayward shots were heavily penalized as an eight iron was about the best that could be used to get back into play.
With everything riding on the days result that would determine if he would be added to the big scoreboard in history, Russell Finch was not quite up to the task and was left wondering that if he had only three-putted five times instead of seven, whether he could have held on to take his third win of the week. In the event it was to be a vain dream and a sad attempt, as he slipped to third place behind the solid play of Sid Ottaway and Masanori Takano in second place.
Sid’s round was fairly unexciting but proved to be just enough to take the day’s top spot by a single point.
Masanori took his third second tier placing of the week with a better count back of 16 to Russell’s 15, so leaving Russell with just a whimper instead of the planned roar.
Roar Berger also finished the week well, taking the count back against Max Tolbert with a better 16 to 15.
For the third time in the week there were no 2’s in the second division ensuring a huge rollover for the following week, but Masanori Takano added to his weeks haul with the only one in the first division.
Prior to the presentations The Doc welcomed new members Steven Bickle, John Ingram, Bob Boyle and Max Tolbert to The Haven. There was also a special welcome back to Bill Thompson, playing his first single competition out of Soi 13 for some considerable time, wanting to be present for Pin Eye’s anticipated climax to the week.

Boss’s day out

IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar

The Pattaya Golf Society visited a full Emerald course at Ban Chang on Tuesday, September 8 to play a stableford competition on the rain damaged course. Sand was scattered abundantly over the course, except, thankfully, for the greens and the course played long with little or no run. Conditions were also extremely humid and a tiring day was in prospect.
Emiel van der Wiele continued his recent excellent for with another minor placing, this time his 32 points giving him a share of fourth place with Chris Voller. Brian Kelly, playing on his favourite course, fired 33 points for a share of second place with Max Tolbert.
“Mr. PGS”, Len Jones, chose at the last minute to play, having been released from his “home carer” role, and proceeded to score the day’s best with 34 points. Having wiped three of the first four holes he preceded to play with his usual mix of the sublime and the ridiculous and averaged 2.5 points per hole for the final fourteen holes. Sometimes awesome, sometimes awful ... that’s his game and occasionally it pays off in style. Six pars and a putt for birdie on every par three, all belying his handicap.
There were no birdie ‘2’s yet again and Bob Watson’s hero-to-zero round, which saw him lose twenty points to his previous round, thoroughly deserved the Booby Bevy on the eve of his departure to UK.
Emerald was unforgiving in this condition and full marks to the boss for shaking a fist at it.
Voller rediscovers his game
On Thursday, September 10, the Pattaya Golf Society chose Phoenix Mountain and Lake as the venue for its stableford event under hot skies and with a course reasonably well prepared, except for a few bobbly greens.
The field was augmented by a couple of visitors from the Jomtien Golf group and two of them were to find themselves in the frame at the end of the day. Alan Duckett fired 37 points for third place and partner Khun Nit went one better to record 38 points from the yellow tees.
The best gross of 75 and the best stableford score of the day, 39 points, was that of Chris Voller who for a few weeks now has been frustrated by a swing problem and the dreaded “shanks”. A few hours on the range indicated he was standing too close to the ball and with this straightened out his game took off. Twelve pars and two birdies formed the basis of his round and it was his best performance for a while.
The only birdie ‘2’ was secured by Masanori Takano on the Mountain eighth and he also received the Booby Bevy for picking up on another par three when he still had a putt for a point.
It’s good to see quality golfers back on form and even the pressures of organising the day did not adversely affect Chris Voller’s excellent round at Phoenix.
More of the same
The weekend regulars from the Pattaya Golf Society visited Green Valley on Saturday, September 12, to play a stableford event on the well prepared course. The heat and humidity were excessive and there appeared to be an increase in buggy traffic accordingly. Despite the oppressive conditions the PGS continued its fine tradition of the winner not losing out to the course for the past four years.
Mikael Andersson offered glimpses of his former form with a third placed 37 points, this despite only hitting two greens in regulation yet again. The Swede’s iron play is currently all awry but his short game more than makes up for it.
Sharing the win were Chris Voller and Richard Hurley with 38 points each and whilst it was an excellent effort by the latter, no-one can diminish the form that Chris Voller has rediscovered and two rare double bogeys prevented him from recording a level par round “off the sticks”. Chris also nailed the day’s only birdie ‘2’, on the sixteenth.
The obvious candidates for the Booby Bevy stayed away from the presentation back in Soi Buakhao and Mr. Len decided to roll the award over to the following weekend at Green Valley. Surely it won’t go to Chris Voller!

McNeely and Carmody form dynamic duo at Pleasant Valley

PSC 91st Members Open Golf Tournament

The runners up Laurence Immethun
and Moe Deverdenne with PSC Golf Chairman Perry.

Derek Brook
Friday, September 11, Pleasant Valley
The test on this day was Pleasant Valley and the format was a 2-ball scramble with the food after at People. It was not thought initially that we would have a full house due to the format and course, but on the day we were full with 50 pairs, and the comments about the course were generally very favourable. We also planned to go to People’s early so that players did not have to drive back down Siam Country Club Road in the dark.

The 2-ball scramble winners, Perry McNeely (right) and Don Carmody (left) receive their prizes from Max.
Pleasant Valley is a course that when you arrive puts you into a ‘temporary’ clubhouse, however, on the day we managed quite well in there and even after the day on the course we got through the showers quite well. It is also a very friendly clubhouse, probably because it is so small.
The course on the day was in good condition and the format helped all the teams to play some good scoring golf and have a fine day out. Surprisingly a 2-ball scramble goes down really well here due to the tightness of the course and gives all teams a second chance with, usually, the better player.

The third placed paring of Lou Szigleti and Jim Bell.
We met afterwards at People’s, this is a bit out of town and consequently we decided to start early, food at 1730hrs, and finish early to allow all to get home early . Unfortunately for some of us who went home first, and particularly those in Pattaya, the drive there was difficult and busy to say the least. People’s itself is a new organisation that kindly hosted us and the thought was appreciated and was a new experience for most of us. The food was fine and well enjoyed by all and the kind thought of People’s to give all players a 60 baht voucher for the first drink was also a nice point.

The fourth placed duo of Peter Henshaw and Seamus Cotter with Perry.
So Perry was allowed to start his presentation nice and early and thanked People’s, all his sponsors and all the people who had helped out on this day. He then passed the microphone to the Emcee for the day, John Emmerson who got the presentation underway, and the winning scores were indeed fine with quite a few count backs.
The winning team was the duo of Perry McNeely and Don Carmody with a fine 55.6. Thoughts go to Bob Benda who was due to play with Perry but was through ill health unable to play. Get well soon from all Bob. In second place were Laurence Immethun and Moe Deverdenne with 57.6 on count back over Lou Szigleti and Jim Bell in third and Peter Henshaw and Seamus Cotter in fourth. In fifth was the team of Paul Erb and Rick Moran with 57.8, with Brian Mitchell and May Mitchell in sixth with a net 58 on count back over seventh placed Jim Ephick and Bill Boscath.
The scores as can be seen were really low, and the handicap percentage will be looked at closely for the next 2 man scramble. Generally, most of the players got away quickly after the presentation to beat the night traffic. T.T.F.N.

Paul Erb and Rick Moran finished in fifth with 57.8.

Brian Mitchell and May Mitchell finished sixth on count back.

Near Pins: Bob Dibben, John Emmerson, Mark Warberton, Alan Campbell, Alan Sullivan, Lou Szigligeti, Don Carmody, Robert McDonald, Geoff King, Joel Flor, Dick Warberg, Emmet White, J.J. Harvey, George Hayes, May Mitchell.
Long Drives: (A ) Sugar Robinson; (B) Patrice  Bardy; (C) Steven Steele; (L) May Mitchell.
2’s: Gareth Gill, Emmet White, Richard Warberg, Moe Devlin (2), Bob Dibben, Marilyn Hayes, Mike Allidi, Ian Halfpenny, Jim Elphick, J.J. Harvey, Paul Smith, Dave Stockton, Peter Henshaw, Geoff King.

Bridge in Paradise: by Neil Robinson

Here is a bridge puzzle, with acknowledgments to Peter Harris.  You are sitting South.  How do you make 7NT after the lead of the jack of spades?  Decide on your plan before reading on below the diagram.

                        S: AKQ

                        H: QJ10

                        D: J109876

                        C: 2

S: J109653                           S: 842

H: 987                                  H: 65432

D: 542                                  D: 3

C: 6                                       C: K543

                        S: 7

                        H: AK

                        D: AKQ

                        C: AQJ10987

The North-South hands certainly have plenty of high cards between the two hands.  In fact, with the club finesse working, you have 14 tricks (three top spades, three high hearts, six high diamonds and two clubs).  The big problem is communication between the two hands.
The opening lead has removed your only entry to dummy.  If you come to hand too soon you will eventually lose a trick to the king of clubs and go down.  So, to make the contract, you must stay in the North hand.  You win the spade on board and play the other two top spades, throwing away the ace and king of hearts from hand.  Now, you play the three hearts from board, throwing away the ace, king and queen of diamonds from hand.  Then, you take the six good diamonds on board.  Finally, at the thirteenth trick, you lead the two of clubs to the ace and make the contract.
Note that the South hand, with 23 high card points, only took one trick!
Next week, some famous bridge quotes.  Here is one from Alfred Sheinwold: “Since the average person’s small supply of politeness must last him all his life, he can’t afford to waste it on bridge partners”.

Pattaya softball stars ready to shine in Cebu

The Pattaya traveling all-star team show off their new jerseys: (L to R)
Rick, Mikey, Perry, Phil, Scotty, Ben, Diego and Rhys. A special thanks goes
out to the Pattaya Sports Club for sponsoring the shirts and for promoting
the softball league. Good luck to all in Cebu!

Diego “Jay” Wells
The best of our regular Sunday softball crew are ready to experience all that the Philippines can throw at them on the weekend of September 18. They will carry the pride and power of Pattaya softball to the 16-team international tournament being held on the island of Cebu, in the Philippines.
The boys have been preparing diligently, both on and off the field, for their upcoming encounters and are ready to impress in Cebu. I took the liberty to interview many of the stars and the following quotes sum up the general mood of these finely tuned, ageless athletes.
“We will, we will, rock them,” states the Freddy Mercury loving hick from Louisiana, our team captain and organizer Perry. While Phil, our bar owning short stop and the team’s most talented base runner (when on the bench), is excited about the opportunity to showcase his skills in the ‘Pines’: “They won’t forget us anytime soon!” proclaimed the internet date site loving youngster.
Mikey (the dancing bear) is tickled pink by the idea of playing in his first international tourney and hopes “Cebu City can handle the antics of the Pattaya lads, and that no one gets thrown in the slammer!”
Scotty our big hitting third baseman had the following inspirational words for our boys: “Look, if we can’t beat them on the field, at least we know that we can, and will beat them in the bar!”
Despite the team’s obvious lack of skill, speed and overall talent, the Pattaya softball stars will do their best to show the international teams just what makes our brand of softball so special. As a perk of the job, I will be tagging along with the ageless stars, chronicling their every move (and maybe even playing a game or two alongside them). So stay tuned for the highlights of the Cebu international softball tournament, and wish our boys luck in their quest for the Cebu Cup.
