Ship ahoy and the good times return for four days

It wasn’t quite the US Cavalry, but the 5,000 American sailors who arrived in Pattaya on September 12 for a four-day R&R break were certainly welcomed by the locals, who have been hard-hit by the plummeting tourist arrival figures in the wake of the national political turbulence.
The USS Abraham Lincoln docked at Laem Chabang, with its crew ready to make a stiff injection into the local economy before sailing off again on September 16.

to No 1 position in Eastern Bartender Contest

A young bartender from the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya won the Eastern Bartender Contest and will now go forward to compete in the Thailand Bartender Championship at the end of this year.

Regent’s hit 10,000 baht plus again at Jester’s Fair

On Sunday Sept. 14, The Regent’s School took part in the Jesters Children’s Fair, which was held at the Diana Garden Resort and Driving Range. The Jesters Fair is an annual event, bringing together schools, businesses and individuals to raise money for charities.

America defeats
Europe 44˝ to 32˝

The North America Team took an early grip on the Ryder Cup Trophy, thrashing the European side by taking 15 points of the 19 available on Day One. This was a 4 ball better ball format played off three quarters of the difference in handicap, taken from the lowest handicapper in the group.

A press conference was recently held at King Power Hotel in Bangkok to announce the movie ‘The Queen of Lankasuka’, a joint production between Sahamongkol Flim & Nova Group Pattaya, which is the most expensive film ever made in Thailand. Somsak Techa-Rattanaprasert (center) from Sahamongkol Film and Rony Fineman (right) CEO of Nova Group Pattaya are pictured presenting a gift to Ananda Everingham. The movie will premiere on 23rd October 2008 and has been chosen to open this year’s Bangkok Film Festival.

When I looked at my review calendar, I could hardly believe that it had been two years since we reviewed the Hard Rock Café. We had certainly been there for birthdays and special occasions, but not officially. We decided to make amends, and with the lack of good lunchtime venues in Pattaya, we decided we would do lunch.
