School shuts as rain disrupts Sattahip

Singhsamut School in Sattahip closed for a day on June 19 after heavy
rains led to flooding in the area.
Sattahip Mayor Narong Bunbancherdsri said that the rain, which started about 2
a.m. and continued until 9 a.m. couldn’t drain away quickly enough because of
the high volume of precipitation combined with a high tide and high water level
in the Nong Takian Reservoir.

British Chamber goes

Last week the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand held its monthly
Eastern Seaboard Networking Evening in Ban Chang. This was the first time the
BCCT had been to Ban Chang in years and it was rewarded by an excellent turnout
with many new faces making the effort to attend.

New presidents installed at four Rotary Clubs in Pattaya

Rotary Clubs Eastern Seaboard and Jomtien Pattaya installed
their new presidents during a ceremony on May 31 at the Marriott Resort
and Spa ballroom, where Dennis Stark, a former president himself, emceed
throughout the evening.

Regent’s School joins hands with Peru
in earthquake relief project

As part of this year’s Round Square Week at the Regent’s School, Year 12
IB student Vlad Plotnikov and Head of Drama Michael Thomas will be
setting off for Peru to take part in an earthquake relief project. They
will be helping to construct a Community Center building in the town of
Chincha which was badly damaged in an earthquake that took place in
August 2007.

Local windsurfer Ek sets sights on Beijing Olympics

Ek Boonsawat, star windsurfer and a key member of the Thai
national team, turned in a fine performance at Event 1 in the Thailand
championship at Jomtien Beach over the weekend June 14-15, and next
month he will be heading to China to prepare for the Olympic Games in
August.
