Famous Australian artist donates painting to PILC charity

Robert Hagan, a well known Australian artist, who also has his own popular television programme called A Splash of Colour, has donated a fine impressionist painting to the Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC).

Cindy and Rosanne are thrilled by the beautiful gift presented by Robert Hagan.

Robert was born in New South Wales, Australia (1947) and has studios in England, USA, Australia and Pattaya. An impressionist painter, he likes to paint subjects like landscapes, seascapes, western, portraits and figures. His work is internationally recognized and collected. In addition to painting, he has written several books and produced DVD’s about how to paint.
The painting he has donated is an original piece and was handed over to PILC President Rosanne Diamente on Wednesday August 30 at Shagwell Mansions, Pattaya.
Rosanne thanked Robert, and said she was absolutely delighted that Robert had given the painting to PILC. This fine piece of artwork will be auctioned at the PILC 20th Anniversary Gala Ball to be held at the Royal Cliff Hotel on 17th November 2007 and it is hoped will raise a lot of money for charity.

Thor Halland speaks on the history of Thailand

The Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) meeting on Sunday August 26th at Henry J. Bean’s included a speaker with whom regular attendees will be very familiar. The PCEC welcomed back Thor Halland who has regularly provided informative talks on the history of Thailand.

The PCEC bids farewell to Gary Brown.

But before Thor started his talk, this week’s MC Roger Fox announced that Gary Brown will be moving permanently to Florida. On behalf of the PCEC, Roger acknowledged his contribution to the club and helping it to thrive not only in the position of regular MC but also his very welcome help for Pattaya’s children through his annual Christmas Toys project. Gary will be missed.
The proceedings then continued with Thor’s History of Thailand lectures, this week covering the 20th century. This provided a fascinating insight into modern Thai history and the significant events to which the attendees could relate.
Board member Michel de Goumois then announced that the next club dinner would take place at the Balcony Restaurant on Thursday 6th September. A special menu had been arranged and everyone was invited to attend.
Chairman Richard Smith then made a number of announcements. Firstly, the much anticipated first aid course was coming to fruition but a date had yet to be confirmed. The course will be of one day in duration and there will be no charge to attend. He also announced that the Computer Group would be holding its monthly meeting at the Markland Hotel at 1 pm on September 3rd.
A further announcement made by Richard concerned the Volunteer English Language Conversation Groups. Tuesday 28th August was a special day for both Conversation Groups. Firstly, there was a special presentation of Completion Certificates for the attendees of the Sattahip Naval Base group. Later on the same day, there was a completion party and certificate presentation for the PCEC volunteers and attendees at the Mike Shopping Mall classes.
Next Richard reported on the Cultural Show, highlighting the five regions of Thailand which had been held at Bali Hai from 23rd to 25th August. The PCEC had participated in the event and Richard thanked all those who had worked hard, representing the club.
Club regular Hawaii Bob invited any budding golfers to help him form a Golfing Group. Bob stated that the actual golfing would not be taken seriously and that the emphasis would be on fun.
For those wanting to acquire a Thai Driving License, Hans Stroosnyder organized a trip to the license centre on Wednesday 5th September.
A regular feature of the Sunday morning meeting is Richard Silverberg’s ‘Web Site of the Week’. This Sunday Richard came up with another excellent site, that of bangkokbob. This provides a vast amount of information regarding all aspects of Bangkok and would be useful by both newcomers and residents. The URL is www.bangkokbob.net.
Larry King again stepped into the breach to mediate the Open Forum which as always proved to be the usual lively and entertaining session. For more information regarding, not only PCEC Sunday meetings but also the varied mid week activities, please see the Community Happenings section of Pattaya Mail or, for more details, visit the Club’s website at pattayacityexpatsclub.com.
