Rotary makes donation to Pattaya polio victims

The Rotary Club of Taksin-Pattaya distributes bedding and clothing materials to the home for disabled people here in Pattaya.

On Thursday November 23, three members of the Rotary Club of Taksin-Pattaya, Vice President Eric, Community Service Director Florant and the club’s newest member Rotarian Xavier went to the home for disabled people (mostly from polio) here in Pattaya to distribute the bedding and clothing materials bought by the club to help these people to get a little more comfort out of life.
They were welcomed by the headmaster of the home and visited some of the different places in the home, such as the classrooms and re-education room. They were made most welcome by all the staff and residents there.
They thanked the Rotary Club of Taksin-Pattaya and took many photos as a reminder of this special day for them.

Charitable clubs help renovate Kao Bai Sri School

Helle Rantsn
On Monday November 27 the Welfare Team from the Pattaya International Ladies Club went to the very special Kao Bai Sri School, which houses 45 handicapped children, as well as 200 students from primary school age to high school age.

Plutaluang Mayor Thaweep Taengkaew presents a certificate of appreciation to Helle Rantsen, PILC Welfare Chairperson and members.
The reason for the visit was that the Rayong Ladies Club, Pattaya International Ladies Club and the Sattahip Oilfield Club combined putting money into the school. The school was then painted, the roof renovated and external steel doors fitted where it was needed for the upstairs classrooms.
The day of our visit showed what a great job had been performed in the massive task of painting and refurbishing the outside of the main building.
I saw many a pigeon outside the roof wondering what had happened to their roosts and easy access to the roof! These being the main reason for the job being undertaken!
The children themselves looked on at the building with great pride, which was also wonderful to see.
We had a great welcome by the Principal of the school, and Dang thanked all involved with a presentation of plaques from the school.
The next task at this school, for the Pattaya Ladies Welfare Team will be to renovate one of the houses that is currently being used by the teachers whom also house with them 5 of the special needs children, as they have nowhere else to go.
I saw for myself the accommodation and I look forward on reporting to you how this project goes.
If you would like to contribute in any way please contact Helle Rantsén helle_rantsen@ access.inet.co.th or Ingrid, at [email protected]

PCEC meeting enjoys busy programme

A busy programme was presented at this week's meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) on Sunday November 26th at Henry J. Bean's.

Dr Paiboon addresses the PCEC.
The morning got underway with MC Philip Schwarz introducing Gary Brown. Gary announced that the Club's annual Christmas gift appeal will be underway again this year. He asked that toys and articles suitable for 2 to 14 year olds should be brought into the Club before the 24th December. After that date all gifts would be delivered to the Redemptorist Centre in Pattaya in time for Christmas. Gary ended by saying that last year 90 gifts were donated and it was hoped that this target would be surpassed this year.
The meeting then continued with the monthly visit by a Bangkok Pattaya Hospital medical specialist. This week it was Dr Paiboon. Dr Paiboon described the causes and treatment of hernia, which whilst they can occur anywhere in the body, they are most common in the abdomen where there are no supportive muscles.
Dr Paiboon was accompanied by Bangkok Pattaya Hospital nursing personnel who offered free blood sugar and blood pressure checks to all those attending.
Also related to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital was the announcement of the opening of the new Building E at the hospital in Sukhumvit Road plus the specially discounted check-up packages which are available for purchase from the 20th November to the 20th December.
Club Chairman Andre Machielsen then described the highly successful and enjoyable PCEC organised 3 day excursion to Kanchanaburi which had taken place November 21 - 23. He described the many places which had been visited during the tour which culminated at the Three Pagodas Pass on the border of Thailand and Burma.
Further excursions are planned for the future; a trip to Chantaburi is planned for mid January. This will be followed during the Songkran period in April, to a destination still to be decided, which celebrates the festival in a traditional manner in order to gain a true appreciation of the festival.
The PCEC has a number of special interest group meetings which are held mid week. A new group was announced; that of the Arts and Culture Group.
The regular Open Forum was then underway and this proved to be the usual lively and entertaining session.
For more information regarding not only PCEC Sunday meetings but also the varied mid week activities including the Arts and Culture Group, please see the Community Happenings section of Pattaya Mail or, for more details, visit the Club's website at pattayacityexpatsclub.com

Dr Pirus Pradithavanij, director of Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, presented the Toyota van to superintendent of Pattaya Immigration Pol Col Ittipol Ittisarnronnachai on November 21.
Dr Pirus said that there were many instances where foreigners in need of visa services were unable for various reasons to visit the Immigration office, possibly through sickness, and that Immigration officers also provided a service in other areas outside the city, for example at Amatanakorn, where transport was necessary.
The hospital presented the 12-seat van for the greater convenience of Immigration officers, said Dr Pirus.
Pol Col Ittipol said that the van would be of great help in presenting a favorable image of Pattaya’s Immigration facilities, in addition to helping the department provide a one-stop mobile service.

News Café makes news

Miss Terry Diner
Adding to the epicenter of the culinary world of Jomtien-Pattaya is the latest venue in the Chateau Dale complex, called the News Café. This is a joint venture by Per and Jens from Scandinavia, restaurateurs from Denmark.
The name comes from the fact that this restaurant will have all the print media delivered daily, including English and Scandinavian publications (and of course the Pattaya Mail every Friday).
The cuisine is European, but with a Scandinavian and Thai influence, which was evident at the official opening, where items such as meatballs and Panang curry were on offer.
With seating for over 100 people, the News Café is below Gian’s Italian Restaurant in the central section of the Chateau Dale complex. Telephone number is 038 267 174, and it is currently open from noon, though it will be opening earlier to cover breakfasts, some time in the new year.
