Announcements

The Embassy of Switzerland in Bangkok has introduced a new visa appointment service. As of April 3, 2006 you can make an appointment by calling: 1900 222 340 (9 baht/minute). This service will be tested until April 21. Starting from April 23, visa clients will only be welcomed at Swiss visa desks during their fixed appointments. Appointments in Thai or English language can be arranged at the external phone number 1900 222 340 (9 baht/minute) from Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The ANZAC Day remembrance and community service program will be conducted this year on Monday, April 24 and Tuesday, April 25. Lent Special Services at the St. George’s Congregation has been growing over the last 6 months and continues to meet at the chapel in the Redemptorist Center off Sukhumvit Road (almost opposite Index Furniture) holding its services at 3 p.m. every Sunday following the Book of Common Prayer liturgy. During this season of Lent there will be special services on April 9 (Palm Sunday) at 3 p.m. followed by a pot luck meal. The congregation openly invites any member of the Church of England, Episcopal Church or Church in Communion with the Anglican Church to join the service and meal on this occasion. Please let Rev. Allan Sherratt know at 071270527 before hand so we can cater for correct numbers. Easter Service will be on the Saturday April 15 at 6 p.m. Celebrating the Resurrection and New Light of Christ. Again please feel free to join the congregation on this the most important day of the Christian year.

The North Star Library actively promotes "reading for learning and enjoyment" for all children, with special priorities given to underprivileged children. The library needs members and with every membership, 2 Thai children are automatically sponsored to join the library. Membership also means free use of the computers when they are not being used for teaching. The library will have basic computer training classes beginning May 1. The lab houses 12 computers, and 2 twenty hour courses, free to all library members, and Thais, will be run each month. The courses during May will be in English, and will commence to be taught in Thai in June. We are planning to start Thai language classes in June. Children’s Programs: Mum & Toddler - Tuesdays 10 - 11.30 a.m. Children’s Advancement Program - Saturday 10 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. During the long Thai school holidays, we are looking for people to help with some holiday programs. At the Pattaya City Expats Club meeting this week on Sunday April 2 there will be an introductory talk on the Art of Living Foundation which claims to be the largest volunteer-based NGO in the world. The foundation’s service projects and programmes on yoga, meditation and stress elimination have benefited people from all walks of life, religions, cultures and traditions. The movement celebrated its 25th anniversary in February this year in Bangalore under the watchful eye of its founder Ravi Shanker.
