Maria rocks the Hard Rock
Maria rocks the Hard Rock Hotel
nightly except Thursday.
Paul Strachan
The Hard Rock Hotel is synonymous the world over as a venue for stylish
decor, great food and of course fantastic music.
The cafe at the Hard Rock has a new exiting band called Maria. This is a seven
piece band from Bangkok; indeed all of the 6 male musicians are Thai and the
only female in the group is Melissa who hails from Wales.
Two of the members of the band are Catholic, which was the inspiration for their
name Maria, i.e., Ave Maria.
Melissa has a great voice that can almost seduce a slow ballad and can also belt
it out for the rock numbers.
The male vocals are headed up by Art, who has an amazing range, on lead guitar
is Menn, Golf plays the rhythm guitar, Joe on keyboards, Kop on drums and the
bass player and band leader is Aod.
The music they play is a great range from soft to hard rock.
They have an extensive repertoire, and are always inviting requests from the
audience.
They perform 3 one-hour sets every night except Thursday from 9:30 p.m.
Paul from Pattaya Mail on TV went along to check out the newest band to hit
Pattaya and had a quick chat with Melissa and Aod. You can check out that
interview and sample some of the music on Pattaya Mail on TV on Saturday
February 20.

local government and from private organizations.
Amongst the many activities taking place was a display of rowing in four
longboats manned by a total of 100 oarsmen who chanted as they manned the
paddles. There was also a demonstration of the flag lowering ceremony that is
traditional to the Marines, singing by 60 students from Singsamut School, and a

Pattaya Sports Club handed over a sports field to Huay Yai School on
February 9, along with sports equipment.
Making the presentation was PSC President Gerry Carpenter and Charity Chairman
Bernie Tuppin, who said the new facility will help support education and sports
at the school and will also be available for the surrounding community.
Huay Yai Mayor Anon Intharasing officially received the presentation on behalf
of the school.
Mrs Prakob Chomchan, Huay Yai School director said that the school had planned
to increase its sports education but the budget had not been enough to support
the provision of new facilities.
“The school asked many associations for their support, one of them being the
Pattaya Sports Club, which always supports the school. This time the club
donated 120,000 baht to provide a sports field and sport equipment.”
Building of the sports field began in December 2005. A standard size field made
of concrete, it is suitable for outdoor sports like takraw, volleyball, and
badminton.
