Honest taxi driver returns a wad of money to his passenger

A taxi driver who found 2,350 pounds sterling (164,500 baht) in his cab after driving a passenger to Pattaya drove back to the resort the following day and presented the money to the astonished and grateful tourist.
Jaikla Phaenthong, 34, had delivered the tourist, British national Mathew Wilson, 31, to the Sanya Hotel on January 17. Wilson had just arrived in Thailand for a two-month holiday. Receiving what he thought were funds that had been lost forever, Wilson praised the honesty of the driver, and the kindness and honesty of the Thai people. Jaikla was presented with a 20,000 baht reward for his good deed.

Dr Sunya hosts PIC Group New Year party

Dr Sunya Viravaidya hosted the PIC Group New Year celebrations at Pattaya International Hospital on January 17. Honored guest was General Niphon Pharunnit, adviser to the Royal Projects, who also presided over the opening ceremony. More than 300 PIC Group employees gave him a warm welcome with a standing ovation, and lighting candles and setting off fireworks.

Children visit HTMS Chakri Naruebet aircraft carrier

The aircraft carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet drew great interest from children and adults alike when it was opened to the public on National Children’s Day, January 14.
HTMS Chakri Naruebet is used not only in military activities, but also as a sea rescue vessel, a mobile ocean-going airport, and a field hospital. The ship has participated in many rescue missions, such as the floods in the South and during many storms that have battered the Thai coast.

QBE Insurance Phang Nga Bay Regatta sets sail for Chinese New Year

Although the Ocean Marina basically opened the 2006 yacht-racing season with the first of their monthly events and, further up the coast the Royal Varuna Yacht Club has already gone into ‘over-drive’, it is really the Phang Nga Regatta, which sets the pace for the New Year.
