The Jesters Children’s Fair is this Sunday, September 11!
But don’t forget the Jesters’ Pub Night 6 days later on Saturday, September 17
Lewis Underwood
All our focus is on the Fair right now, but we are still
keeping an eye on the following weekend, when we will stage our 8th Annual
Jesters Pub Night.
The
Pub Night, besides being celebratory for a job well done at the Fair, will
be rather special because of the people involved. Namely professional DJ’s
Paul Jackson and Andy Francis, skillful comperes Neil Smith and Poodle Pete,
veteran musicians Rick and Harpic, and auctioneer extraordinaire Eddy
Henheffer. This festive evening will take place on the Saturday following
the Fair, September 17th at Jameson’s Irish Pub in front of the Nova Park
Hotel.
In between the DJ’s spinning discs, we will hold our
auction slots and have our team furiously selling Grand Raffle tickets. We
still want to raise as much money as we can for the kids in need throughout
the revelry.
Headlining the auction are lots of wonderful signed
sports memorabilia, including that of Arnold Palmer, Pele, Schumi, Jonny
Wilkinson, Jacques Villeneuve, Martina Hingis, Paradorn and Tammy. However,
there are also some quite beautiful rosewood furniture pieces with Mother of
Pearl inlay, including a table set with 6 chairs, bed with two end tables, a
huge wardrobe, a chest of drawers and an audio-visual console/cabinet. We
will display some of the smaller items on the evening and show the rest with
photos on TV monitors at Jameson’s.
For our Grand Raffle drawing, we have 6 airline prizes,
including our top trip, Sydney Bangkok return from BA/Qantas. We also have a
2-day trip to River Kwai, and a Royal Cliff Beach Hotel 2-night stay in an
ocean-view suite. A 2-night, 3-day stay at Logans Place in Koh Chang, and a
3-month family membership to the Dusit Fitness Center and more. There are
also many prizes of restaurant vouchers and gift certificates graciously
donated by well known local businesses.
So, have a great time at the Children’s Fair on Sunday
11th with the whole family.
Then 6 days later, on Saturday, September 17th, make it to the Pub Night
at Jameson’s. Buy some Grand Raffle ticket books, bid on some auction
items, enjoy the music and the Eddy Henheffer show.
Bid for
this beautiful rosewood bed with Mother of Pearl inlay on Sept. 17.
Jump on
board with Michael Schumacher.
Percy
Panda and Sam’s eyes are big at the site of all the prizes.
This
rosewood table set with 6 chairs will be up for auction at the 8th Annual
Jesters Pub Night Sept. 17 at Jameson’s The Irish Pub.

Srimaharacha School reviews progress during Education Day
Suchada Tupchai
Deputy Mayor of Sriracha Chalao Charoensantisuk presided
over the opening of Orchid Education Day 2005 at Ban Srimaharacha Municipal
School, a gathering of local government officials, school directors, members
of education committees, teachers and students. More than 3,000 people were
present at the event.
The
science corner was a popular area where children received hands-on learning.
Supot Supaphan, director of the Education Department at
Ban Srimaharacha, said this event was designed to update everyone on
modifications to the teaching system here and at Wat Ratniyomtham School. To
ensure the schools achieve national education standards there will be an
evaluation every two years from the 2006 education year onwards.
Deputy Mayor Chalao said it was important for the
education system to evaluate itself, as progress is being made very quickly.
Teachers need to continually develop themselves and find new ways of
allowing the children to learn and develop their own abilities.
Amongst the activities during the day were a presentation of the students
work, a display in the school library, a children’s show on stage and an
education competition. Many other organizations also attended, including
Somdej Prabormratchatawee na Sriracha Hospital, which set up a booth for
health checkups.
Teachers attend English Camp to pass skills on to students
Suchada Tupchai
An English Camp designed to raise English language
proficiency amongst local school teachers and organized by the Education
Supervision Department in cooperation with MA Language & Training
Institute was conducted at Pattaya School No 1.
Teachers
pay complete attention to their activities under close supervision.
A total of 46 teachers attended the camp, which was
headed by the department chief Wannapa Wannasri along with Alvi Sithuvanik
from the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya.
Wannapa said that city hall realized that local teachers
needed to develop their English language skills and their teaching methods
so primary school students could have a better understanding of the language
early on in their lives, and begin to use their skills at the earliest
stages of their development.
There was a total of 30 hours of training by MA Language & Training
Institute lecturers with games and songs as part of the process that the
teachers can then pass on to their students to show them that learning is
also fun.
Royal Navy lends scenic Had Yao Camp to Scouts
Chatchanan Chaisree
Vice-Admiral Weerapan Ngork-Ngam, commander of Sattahip
Naval Base, has confirmed that the Ministry of Education has asked the Royal
Navy for use of Had Yao as the location for the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout
Jamboree 2005.
The
islands of Chuksamed and Chongkaeb are just offshore from the campsite.
Had Yao is one of the beaches in Samaesarn sub-district
that comes under the responsibility of Sattahip Naval Base. The beach is 3
km long and the islands of Chuksamed and Chongkaeb are just offshore. The
beach forms an open harbor with a backdrop of mountains. The wide open
spaces mean that it is suitable for maneuvers for all military departments
based at Sattahip, and it is also used in Royal Thai Navy amphibious
training and for the joint Thai-US Cobra Gold activities.
The Ministry of Education last used Had Yao for the 20th
World Scout Jamboree held from December 28, 2002 to January 8, 2003, which
was attended by a total of 30,000 scouts and officers from 150 countries. At
the end of this year Thailand has the honored to organize the World Scout
Jamboree once again. The Ministry of Education and the National Scout
Department will be the main co-organizers. On this occasion Sattahip Naval
base will spend 6 months developing and adapting the buildings in the area
for the Jamboree.
This involves building the paved walkway from the beach to the shore,
planting green trees along the road, providing a water supply, electricity,
telephone, supermarket, a mobile clinic staffed from Sirikit Hospital and
many other facilities in readiness for this 25th Asia Pacific regional Scout
Jamboree.
