Peter informed Chanyuth that, “The Pattaya Mail and Capital TV have pooled our resources to create a new and contemporary television news, events and entertainment program of the highest quality called ‘Pattaya Mail Plus’.”

Les spoke of the new show saying, “The program will be of the highest standards ever. It will be a magazine style presentation, including news and features of every kind.”

Chanyuth welcomed the visitors and said, “I am extremely proud that you are taking the initiative to produce such an international style show to be shown on out cable network. On behalf of the citizens of Pattaya I would like to express our appreciation for your efforts.”

Les added, “Pattaya is a very interesting place, full of life and activity. We will have endless opportunities and subject matter to produce news and feature stories for our viewers.”

Chanyuth showed confidence in the new show and reminded the team that, “You must concentrate on tourism. Pattaya is a tourist destination and visitors, be they short or long term would like to know all about Thailand.”

Les confidently stated that that was real easy, “Travel and tourism shows are our specialties. We have been producing Destination Thailand and Travel Asia programs, which are shown nationally and internationally, for many years now.”

Chanyuth spoke of growth and expansion and said that Sophon Cable has over 30,000 viewers, not counting visitors in the thousands of hotel rooms and apartment buildings. “My plans are to make Pattaya the hub of cable television, whereby Sophon Cable would be broadcasting to all the provinces in the eastern region of Thailand,” said Chanyuth with pride and determination.

“We will only allow shows of the highest standards to be shown on our network,” said Chanyuth adamantly. “We only welcome those who can produce quality shows to join us and those who cannot will have to pull out.”

Peter assured Chanyuth that the Pattaya Mail Plus show will be all that and Plus. “I know that the citizens of Pattaya strive only for the best from the media and we have been striving towards that goal all along, as can be seen by the popularity of the Pattaya Mail. In ten years we have become the biggest, most circulated and read English language newspaper on the Eastern Seaboard. That is guarantee enough that the Pattaya Mail Plus TV show will be the best in these parts.”

Chanyuth gave his blessings and encouragement saying, “Welcome to my Sophon Cable TV. After speaking to both of you today, I am pleased and convinced that your hard work will bring color and beauty to our programs. No doubt, this will also attract a lot of sponsors to your show. Bruno’s Restaurant has its last supper - until October 15

Miss Terry Diner

The gastronomic enthusiasts of Pattaya and the Eastern Seaboard all made a pilgrimage to Bruno’s Restaurant and Wine Bar, to indulge themselves one last time at the Soi Regent Marina address, where Bruno’s has been for the past seven years.

The last supper. Culinary delights and good conversation were a fitting farewell to the old location.

The last three days were economic marvels as well as culinary ones, as owner and chef, Fredi Schaub, cleaned out the larders offering cut-price deals to the final diners, to make the difficult process of shifting that little bit easier.

The hundreds of gourmets who frequented the restaurant on those fateful three days, spent much time in reminiscence, swapping tales of jokes with the late lamented Bruno Forrer, while sharing a bottle or two with Fredi and their friends. People were seen trying different menu items, so they could say they ate everything at the ‘old’ Bruno’s and its last supper.

But it was not a time for doom and gloom, as the ‘new’ Bruno’s Restaurant and Wine Bar will be opening, ahead of schedule, on October 15, according to Fredi. The new address is on Thappraya Road, 500 meters before the Thepprasit Road intersection. The signs are the same, the staff is the same, the kitchen personnel are the same, and it’s business as usual after October 15th, says Fredi.

Pattaya City’s Expat Club raises funds for Nern Plubwarn School

Receives governmental support

Last week Pattaya City’s Expat Club, led by its president Drew Noyes, held a monthly meeting at Henry J. Beans, Amari Orchid Resort, to discuss the issue of budgeting the ongoing project of Nern Plubwarn School’s building construction. Chanyuth Hengtrakul, adviser to the Minister of Tourism and Sports and Decha Chomchan, director of the school, were also present at the meeting.

Chanyuth Hengtrakul, adviser to the Minister of Tourism and Sports gives a talk at the Pattaya City’s Expat Club meeting held at Henry J. Beans.

Chanyuth said, “Nern Plubwarn School still lacks adequate facilities, including restrooms and a cafeteria. The community around the school is growing at a fast pace and the school is not capable of providing enough services for their students. The number of students jumped from 800 to 1,300 this year.”

Chanyuth explained that the rapid increase in the number of children in the school has affected the education standards. He said Sontaya Khunpluem, Minister of Tourism and Sports, is concerned about the issue and asked him to look for possible ways to help the kids. Chanyuth is now acting as a liaison to build cooperation between governmental departments, including Chonburi Administration Organization and Nongprue district Administration Organization, and the private sector.

Chanyuth said he was happy to see private organizations such as the Pattaya City Expat Club so willing to dedicate their time and budget to help the kids.

The adviser also clarified strategies on how to raise more money for the project and ways to contact the government departments for help. After hearing the initial steps of problem solving and the working procedure, the club will meet again to come up with an amount of money to be allocated to the project.

Five hundred Catholics participate in annual celebration at Saint Nicolas Church

Suchada Tupchai

Bishop Thienchai Samanchit recently chaired special celebrations at Saint Nicolas Church Pattaya. More than five hundred catholic devotees, both Thais and foreigners, gathered for this yearly event.

All catholic priests and Bishop Thienchai Samanchit placed beautifully arranged flowers upon the statue of Jesus Christ while singing devoted prayers.

Participants joined to sing holy songs and laid flowers at the statues of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary. This celebration is held every year for participants to pray for wisdom, goodness, forgiveness, and prosperity. However, this year the lovely Jesus Christ statue parade, which is part of the holy tradition, was cancelled due to rain.

The Saint Nicolas Church was started in 1959 when Father Patrick Morrissey, who was studying Thai language at Assumption Sriracha College, regularly visited Banglamung and led the weekly religious ceremony.

The church was originally built in wood in 1961 when Swiss national Walter Meier donated a patch of land near his house in Pattaya to build a small house where the Catholic mass could be held.

Later 6 rai of land was bought to include a cemetery and 200,000 baht was raised and spent on building a proper church structure. Since then the church has been regularly expanded. In 1989 the latest building was constructed and named Dorothia, in honor of the wife of Saint Nicolas.
