City officials and department heads meet with local press
for friendship party at Grand Sole Hotel
Suchada Tupchai
Mayor Pairat Suthithamrongsawat, city officials, and
local media attended a friendly party held at the Grand Sole Hotel, Pattaya
2nd Road last week. The city organized the party to enhance the relationship
between city officials and the local media. Representatives of different
groups of the Pattaya media, cable TV, newspaper, and radio were given a
chance to meet the city’s bureaucrats and exchange views on current events
in Pattaya City.
Mayor Pairat said the city very much appreciated working
with the media and sharing information with the press to promote the city in
the tourism, sports, and culture sectors. He added said the city also had to
thank the media for keeping an eye on the community, spotting wrongdoings
and reporting them, whether the fault lay with city officials or residents.
The mayor concluded that Pattaya City could become a safe and nice place for
residents and tourists if all sectors of society joined hands to help make
improvements.

Hank goes to
Henry J Bean’s Amari Watergate
By Miss Terry Diner
With the promise of Henry J Bean himself (known to his
friends as Hank) actually being present at the 9th anniversary of his Henry
J Bean’s Bar and Grill at the Amari Watergate, over 600 people pushed
their way into the venue.
With man-about-town Man Watanyoo acting as emcee for the
evening, assisted by the ever-present and ever-smiling GM, Pierre-Andre
Pelletier, this was destined to be an evening never to be forgotten.
Chefs
ready to wheel in the cake.
Nothing had been left to chance. Outside the bar, the
massed kitchen chefs of the Amari turned out in white aprons and tocques,
banging their saucepans in anticipation around the 9th anniversary cake. The
Carlsberg girls ran the mini golf, while the Kahlua girls did whatever
Kahlua girls do while smiling a lot, while the Coke boys and girls ran a
dodge the dart and balloon bursting alley.
Inside it was entertainment, entertainment,
entertainment, with the band giving their all, and more, while the mosh pit
waited for Hank. The Pattaya Mail knew that Hank was coming too, because he
was travelling up to Bangkok with us. Unlike his “everything is
happening” bar, Hank is actually a very quiet chap and sat in the back of
the car and never said boo or even Bean!

Pelletier, MC Man Watanyoo, Mrs. Marisa Mahawongtrakul. (Back row) Pinsiri
Siripin, Executive Assistant Manager Denis Richter and another reveller.
However, the Pattaya Mail limo ran into mechanical
trouble and we had to stop at the services area half way to Bangkok, and
that’s where the problems really began. We took on water and then passed
water and leaped into the car for the final 45 minutes into the Amari
Watergate. Arriving at the forecourt we turned around and Hank wasn’t
there! We then realised we had left him in the gentleman’s loo. By the
time we located him it was too late - he’d caught a bus to Chonburi
instead of Bangkok by mistake, so he missed his own party again.
So Hank missed the biggest Bean’s birthday bash of all
time - but the other 600 people who did get there really enjoyed it.
Including us! But don’t despair, the local Henry J Bean’s outlet at the
Amari Orchid Resort on Beach Road is having its birthday on November 1. Come
along and meet Hank. Shy and quiet and a lovely guy.

PILC presents 250,000 baht to Redemptorist School for the Disabled
Proceeds from new “Living in Pattaya and Rayong” Guide supplement students’ education
Damri Muangkaew
Following the successful launch of the 4th edition of
Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC)’s Living in Pattaya and Rayong
Guide, the ladies donated 250,000 baht raised from sponsors and book sales
to the Redemptorist School for the Disabled on Thursday afternoon, September
4.
The first edition of this useful book was launched in
1992, and it has become a tradition to help pay for student tuitions. The
revised new Edition 5 is available in Pattaya bookstores and at PILC
functions.
Father
Patrick Morrissey (back row, 5th from left) receives the check from Gundi
Clement-Setz, editor of “Living in Pattaya & Rayong”. Also present
were Sandy Langford, president, Bronwyn Little-Carey, welfare chairperson,
and other members of the PILC, as well as Sister Gemma and some of the
students.
Father Patrick Morrissey received the check on behalf of
the school directors from Gundi Clement-Setz, editor of the Living in
Pattaya and Rayong, Sandy Langford, PILC president, Bronwyn Little-Carey and
PILC members.
The funds will be put towards furthering the students’
education needs including the purchase of computers and electronics parts
for the many courses on offer and meals for the boarding students.
There are currently 198 students at the school, learning
electronics, computer administration, programming and English. They have to
go through a tough selection process by Public Welfare in all Provinces.
Tuition or boarding fees are not required and the school relies entirely on
funding from organizations such as the PILC, and donations from individuals.
After they graduate they are certain to find a qualified position and live
an independent life. Some find employment in their hometowns and help
support their families. One fine example of how the school supports these
young people is the Electronics Shop on the south side of Pattaya North Road
(Thai House area) where ex-students can repair computers, VCRs, radios, TVs
and more.
A substantial amount of money was raised by the 4th
edition of the Guide and was used to provide full vocational training for
many handicapped people through the Redemptorist Vocational School for the
Disabled. Some of the funds raised from the 4th edition were also allocated
to the Street Kids for food and education.
