Wattana Jantanawaranont, Pattaya’s deputy mayor in charge of looking after the city’s educational system, spoke to the throngs on the history of Education Day in Pattaya. The special day began in 1987 and the intention is to focus on promoting the learning processes. It also addresses the need for Pattaya to develop its education system by providing numerous activities, including spelling and mathematics competitions, as well as displays of skills and abilities between students of Pattaya public schools and schools in the Banglamung and Eastern Seaboard area.

Activities included lunch for all and a ceremony was performed to pay respects to HM the King. Sponsors of the day included private enterprises such as the Saha Farm Group, Diana Group, Pattaya Mail and charity organizations including the Rotary Club of Jomtien Pattaya and others.

Mayor Pairat presented certificates to teachers and students who had excelled in their teaching and learning skills and showed exceptional commitment to education.

Mayor Pairat said, “You are the resources of the future and as the world opens up we must come together as one.”

Sports Day at the Regent’s

Children in Years 1, 2 and 3 at the Regent’s School recently enjoyed their annual Sports Day. Everyone had the opportunity to participate and all teams took turns at the 6 activity stations. Long jump, target throw, sprint, egg and spoon race, soccer shoot and the sack race tested everyone’s skills and were lots of fun as well!

The second half of the programme was devoted to some hotly contested relay races and finished up with a new event - the tug-of-war. As soon as the children finished, the ‘grown-ups’, not wanting to be left out of the fun, had their own competition. The teachers versus parents tug-of-war attracted huge cheers from the crowd, with the parents proving just too strong! What a great day for everyone!

The children of the Camillian Center in Rayong were filled with joy from the results of the “Toys for Joy” project from the Thai Garden Resort. Swinburne Thammasiri in Laem Chabang is an international branch of the Swinburne Thammasiri University of Technology in Australia. The university, in conjunction with Technology Supply Company created the Laem Chabang facility in 1997 offering Certificate, Diploma and Associate Degrees in English, focusing on the technical, theoretical and more importantly on the practical aspects in each course.

Graduates leave Swinburne armed with practical experience and technical knowledge in their chosen field of study, something that is highly valued in today’s business.

Professor Wallace said that these graduates are the first to complete the course that is 100 percent the same as the Australian course structure and have equal qualifications to those graduating from the Swinburne Thammasiri University of Technology in Australia at an international standard.

The professor added they are now ready to use their knowledge and skills and enter their profession. Many of the students have the opportunity to select their employers and find further experience or go on to further education.
