Amari Orchid Resort holds open house for Pattaya Orphanage

Well we hope that you had a very happy New Year. Did you have a party or do something special? People all around the world like to celebrate New Year differently. In Nigeria they have 3 different times that they celebrate New Year. Some Nigerians celebrate on December 31st by dressing in brightly colored clothes and going to church. They ring very loud bells at midnight to let everyone know that the New Year has begun. They pray and ask for God’s blessing in the New Year.

Some Nigerians celebrate New Year on February 10th. This is the beginning of the fishing season. Thousands of people go to the Sokoto River with their fishing nets. When a signal is given they all run into the water and try to catch as many fish as they can. The person who catches the most amount of fish wins a prize.

Other Nigerians celebrate New Year on the 18th of March. At midnight everyone makes a loud noise and children slam the doors of houses to say goodbye to the old year. Everyone then runs into the streets clapping their hands.

Oxford Junior Bilingual School officially opens

Run by Amporn Saetae, the Oxford Junior Bilingual School officially opened their new building just in time to coincide with Christmas, as the students gathered to celebrate the season.

Many activities marked the special occasion as parents and teachers gathered to watch the children’s performances in dancing, singing and story telling.

Oxford Junior Bilingual School moved from its former location to Soi 71 off Sukhumvit Road and offers English curriculum from kindergarten up to high school.

The children told a story through a special show.

Amporn Saetae, manager of Oxford Junior Bilingual School, enjoys with students the school’s reopening at its new location.

Star for a night

Lesley Warner

Satit Udomseuksa Academy on Sukhumvit Road recently held its annual children’s party in the very impressive grounds of the school. The festivities featured shows on a large, professionally set up stage, and a video camera recording the show so that mums, dads and kids could buy a video and enjoy the show again at home. Early on, many tables were already filling up with eager parents who had come to watch their “little darlings” become stars for the night, and there were a lot of familiar faces in the crowd, as this is truly an international school.

Young musicians perform in front of a wonderful painting depicting Thai culture.

When the show started, it became apparent that it was excellent and very professionally produced; included in the program were Christmas carols, a fashion show, traditional dancing, songs and some international dancing with great costumes. The children introducing the show, regardless of their age, did an excellent job in both Thai and English.

Both children and parents were obviously equally enjoying the show, and getting photos was no easy task, as battling with a proud mama or papa to get a front line picture could get quite exhausting. Fortunately there was some excellent food served, so there was time to sit back and enjoy the show.

One young gentleman, ‘Kai’, was so excited at the end of the show that he said he had the best time of his life.

A natural entertainer, this young lady could be a future star.

Parents eagerly await the beginning of the show on the spacious and beautifully decorated grounds of the Satit Udomseuksa Academy.

The academy, a Thai school with education to international standards, caters for children in nursery right through to high school. The school is accredited by the Thai Ministry of Education and is staffed with fully experienced, certified Thai and foreign teachers. They have well-equipped and spacious air-conditioned classrooms, playing fields and swimming pool. Parents are actively involved in the school and encouraged to visit and make their own suggestions on how to develop the students’ understanding and potential to improve their future prospects.
