Inauguration of new flight route to Chittagong

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his Bangladeshi counterpart Khaleda Zia jointly witnessed the Thai Airways International (THAI) inauguration of a new Bangkok-Chiang Mai-Chittagong flight.

Kanok Apiradee, president of THAI, said the leaders of the two countries presided over the inauguration ceremony in Bangladesh’s Chittagong City on December 12th. She said Thailand’s national airline will arrange three flights a week for the route, each scheduled on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

A Boeing 737-400 plane with 149 seats will provide the flight service, she added.

Chittagong is regarded as the biggest port city in Bangladesh and Bay of Bengal. Bangladesh is developing Chittagong into a key business city because it is the place where clothes shops and industrial factories abound. The city is also abundant with seafood products and fresh vegetables of various kinds. Canned seafood is produced for export to Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei while the vegetables are for export to the Middle East and Europe. (TNA)
